Tracking Down the Endless Battle Music
We're looking for reliable, consistent test cases to help us track down this issue with the combat music not stopping at the end of combat. If you find a case that results in the combat music continuing forever, and you can repeat it more than once, please post it here.

Theories I'm trying at the moment:
- Pausing during combat; the theory is that if you pause at the right (read: the wrong) moment during combat, it can send the music through its looping without detecting that combat has ended. (UPDATE: I've tried pausing during combat and it didn't result in the music continuing forever. If pausing is relevant, it may need to be a specific moment where the pause occurs, but that wouldn't explain why so many people are experiencing this issue on such a regular basis.)

- Playing as any non-human; the theory is that for some bizarre reason only non-humans are affected by this issue, but (for example) a half-orc would reproduce the issue consistently. (UPDATE: I've tried this with an Elf so far, and have not been able to reproduce the issue.)

I had a really wierd one. We went into the cave in Nera's area, leaving the battle music behind. When we had finished dealing with the red wizards and left the cave, the battle music started right back up!!! I had to save, quit, exit STEAM, and restart the computer to get rid of it.

This is ridiculous. And this player's human.

Hey guys, I just want to add some information that may also help.

The glitch also occasionally occurs when returning to the game from the character arbitration screen after another person joins, except it doesn't play combat music. It will play the music from the main menu. Other people can probably also attest to this.

My guess is it has to do with the synchronization of music between players, and that the introduction of a new player or leaving of a player can throw off this synchronization somehow.

(regardless, the next time a fight starts, the music will return to normal, no matter what it was stuck on).

You know what's kind of sad? When the only "solution" people can come up with is trying to find ways to "work-around" the looping combat music.

"Gee guise, we're stumped, what do u think lol??"

I mean, come on. I almost have 100+ hours in BGEE1. This problem NEVER happened until 1.3 dropped.

Get it together, developers!

(Also: The current character I'm playing with is a Human Dark Moon Monk, so the whole "human theory" is false. I have tried with other races and the same thing happens.)

It HAS to be something that was introduced with patch 1.3, because the problem didn't exist before then.

I propose that you go back and withdraw every line of code you put in that patch. I hadn't had any problems with the game before the patch, but I sure have one now. It gets very old very quickly, having to save, quit, and reload the game every half hour or so to shut the music down.

Wow i just started playing and enjoying Baldur's Gate again thanks to this "enhanced" edition, but what the heck is with this bug. Its extremely annoying, seems to happen on almost every single fight for me. I mean you guys made some great enhancement indeed but that insanely annoying bug almost makes it pointless.. I'm sure im far from the only one who will feel that way, i hope you are still working on it, this needs a fix.

It's kind of funny that I started this about 5 months ago & there is till a problem. I thought I had solved this by reinstalling the game but that didn't work so I just uninstalled it again to make room for some newer games. Think I'll try again just to see.

I don't think they CAN fix it.

This is with non human players. I'm going to start a new human character, take him there, and see what happens.

The theory here, I guess, is that going too far astray the starting path brings on the unending music. In other words, skipping the fortified inn where you pick up Jaheira and her husband.

Jaheira and whatshisface are married? I never knew that... Never hinted at it the entire first chapter. :/

But anyway, I think you may be right here. I do get repeated combat music but from what I recall it's only if i'm in an area I shouldn't be in at my level or if it's off the main questline. If I die or reload it will stop but if I continue it won't. Happens randomly and does stop after map change. Playing as a Human Fighter with Imogen, Jaheira, her husband, Neera(The mage you meet in Bergeres) and the Dwarf who gives up looking for his caravan because he got bored(Lawful Evil?). Happens with Jahira, the husband, Imogen and the two Evil companions you come across at the very beginning shortly after you leave Candlewood.

Lo, yet another patch has been released, and it, too, has done absolutely nothing to fix the noise issue. I don't care how many languages or obscure operating systems you put in, fix the damn endless combat music!

Back in October, 2014 you said "A fix is coming. That too is a promise." Well it's at least 5 months later, and that fix still hasn't come.

Yeah, this is annoying. But Quicksave/Quickload - Boom! Problem solved. I can live with it, because, you know, it's Baldur's Gate, man!

Ahhh it happens to me a LOT i just mute music :(

Music's one of the great parts of the game. When you are reduced to having to turn it off, it's a real game breaker. Why don't you people REMOVE patch 1.3, and return the game to the point it was before the patch. I was having no problems then.

I find it both funny & sad that this is STILL an issue....I am extremely disappointed that we cannot get an answer or fix for this. Guess the dev's figured they made enough money off us & don't need to figure this out. That's ok....as far as I'm concerned they DID get enough money off me. I will not buy another product from this company..........
To all the people bewildered that they haven't fixed this bug yet!

I hope you do realize that this bug is a persistent issue across the Original Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate 2, NEVERWINTER NIGHTS, Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition and Baldur's Gate 2: Enhanced Edition.

They haven't been able to track down the cause of the bug for over 17 YEARS and probably never will.
