Custom portraits gender
I've added a custom portraits pack.
Starting the game -> generating a character
-> picking female -> clicking arrow left
And there goes several brutal male orkish faces like avatars in Warcraft

Did I missed a possibility to split the portraits in folders by genders?

I think you have to open up BGEE.lua and find this function:

portraits =
{
{'MAN1', 1},

{'BDORCF1', 2}
}

You can add lines for each of your custom portraits. Obviously 1 for male and 2 for female.

Hope it helps.

Where can I find the BGEE.lua, or It needs to be created?
You will find it in the Override folder.

Thanks, but...
I have ‘normal’ BGEE and I can't find any ‘BGEE.lua’ in any folder and no "Override" folder.
Is your tip for a modded game?

In the Steam version I also checked all folders in the steam library and My Documents
There is no Override folder, nor BGEE.lua

BGEE.LUA isn't inside the Override folder by default, you'll need a program like NearInfinity(requires Java) to view and edit it.

Then I'll do without this thing.
Given the small number of portraits I've added, it doesn't matter.
Thanks !
Riddles. Riddles everywhere!
ngl, the destination i am striving for reminds the modding, where I can tweak other params and make the game easier or broken. This is the reason to forget about it.
