Party Limit change?
Last time I reached Jhaneira and Khalid when they joined me I had to replace Xzar and Montaron, those guys you can pick on the road to Candlekeep. Now when I find them again, they add to the party without them going away. I'm playing on the same difficulty, normal. Just asking if its a bug or am i missing something.

Maximum party size is six characters. I know Xzar and Montaron can get upset if you take too long to take them to Nashkel and will end up leaving your party. Khalid and Jaheira will also leave your party if you take too long to take them to Nashkel as well. Not sure why you would have been forced to replace them though.

I swear it happened in my playthrough last year, but I deleted the saves cause I wanted to start again. Of course Xzar and Montaron were upset that I replaced them. Now come to think, could it be that my mind is playing with me and I replaced them with other companions and not with Janheira and Khalid.
I swear every past time I played BG1 Xzar and Mont would turn hostile after getting Jaheira and Khalid but I'm trying to do a Marathon and play the new stuff and finally clear ToB but they behaved themselves this time and when I replaced them with the Monk and Minsk they were "oh, okay, see you later".
Montaron and Xzar don't leave the party when Jaheira and Khalid join, nor the opposite. But they can turn hostile, but this doesn't seem the case.

They could have left because you had too high reputation.
Strange, I've made it all the way into the Nashkel Mines and beat Mulahey with all 4 of them (plus Imoen). You just have to be VERY quick getting there and getting into the mines.

Of course, in my recent completed playthrough of the Bhaalspawn Saga, Xzar & Montaron actually died fighting Mulahey and his skeletons, so replacing them was easy. :steamhappy:
