Can't get to Cloakwood.

Hi people,

This is my problem. I cant get to Cloakwood and Cloakwood won't appear. I cleared bandit camp and took two letters, I had loads of letters so I copied all and dropped them to the ground. Many had problems with cloakwood if they dont have those letters, I go back to get the letters I get only one from the ground.

I have quest in journal where it says its crucial for me get to Cloakwood if I want to go forward and find out the threats and blaa blaa blaa, which means I have the quest I have read the letters. But still, no Cloakwood.

Is here any chance? Like use consolecheat and recreate letters somehow or what? If I have to start over I just stop playing the game, the hours I have used to this aint worth it to start over.

PS. Dont waste any letters it seems, or put them really safe place like chest in friendly arm inn or something

EDIT: Solution for me was to recreate letter via cheat console. How to do that is in comments, links can be outdated.

Doubtful. No minimum level or resting is needed. If at all, there's a quest trigger that gets interrupted just like some of the Steam achievements, and entering the tent again makes the game reruns the triggers.

I can confirm OP's issue and workaround solution. Just wanted to add my voice to the growing body of evidence that there is an issue, much as some insist on obstinately denying it...

For what it's worth, I collected letters from the chest, copied them, then talked to Ender Sai, quest log updated but no cutscene initiated. I went off did other quests, etc. until I noticed Cloakwood not appearing on map. Located this VERY HELPFUL AND RELEVANT forum post and utilized OPs 'create item' workaround with the letter.

Reentering the tent alone was not sufficient (It was the first thing I did).

Immediately after the fight go to your world map and try to see the first portion of the Cloakwood Forest on it. If it's there you're okay. If not something went wrong. It's a bug. Killing the prisoner doesn't louse it up. I've intentionally killed him before with evil parties. What is essential is to hold those notes till you see Cloakwood on the world map.

If you don't you're going to have to do the fight over. Save before the fight.

That's what makes it very difficult to discuss such issues, if not everyone is affected. With savegames made - before and afterwards - a developer and other players could try to reproduce, and developers could examine the savegame and try to debug it.

Without such attempts, almost everything is guesswork. Some other bugs may have similar symptoms - not affecting everybody and being difficult to reproduce.

Common issue or not, this was fix for me and I did share it to others.

Trying different solutions for a problem is regular thing in troubleshooting. Some fixes work and some don't.

I ran into this bug after several playthroughs on vanilla BG and BGEE. The solution for me:

Edit BG LUA file by adding:

SetPrivateProfileString('Game Options','Cheats','1')

You can put it anywhere in the file; I put it in the end and when I re-opened it, it had been moved.

Start game, open console with ctrl+space

Copy and paste the following into the event window at the center bottom:

C:SetGlobal("CDLetterCheckscrl2z","GLOBAL",1)

I was standing in Tazok's tent when I did this so I immediately got the cutscene. If you aren't in the tent you will need to re-enter it.

Just adding that I've also experienced this bug, BG EE 2.3.67.3 First visit to Tazok's Tent I killed the bandits, looted the chests and gear from the floor including the letters, read them and copied them, spoke to Ender Sai. No cutscene; I didn't know to expect one so carried on. Spent quite a few hours checking every location I could reach on the map trying to find the Cloakwood.

Finally read this thread and had the party revisit Tazok's Tent. Cutscene played right after they walked inside, Cloakwood location appeared on the World Map. Didn't use the console at all.

Definitely a bug here OP, glad you posted about it. Closest savegame I have is entering the Bandit Camp zone for the first time.

Of course! Still very hard or impossible to reproduce on some installations. Interestingly, the bug tracker knows another issue if searching for "Tazok".

Blast from the past! But to be honest. I personally dont care what triggers the bug or how rare it is. Important thing is, we have found working workaround for it so people don't have to start over.

I'm getting this bug, too. I went to the tent, looted the scroll, got the cut-scene, but I cannot travel to the Cloakwood areas.

I can't access any of the cloakwood areas. Just that one. And inside I've walked to all 4 walls and no extra cloakwoods.

Any idea?

In your picture cloakwood is on your map. You should be able to click it and travel there?

I cannot travel to any other cloakwoods, there are 4 I believe.

Did you go to the first one? Each one progressively leads to the next. You have to explore them in order.

Yes I have fully cleared the first one. None of the others open up. That's the issue. :(

Completely stuck until those open.

Looks like a few years since this was active but I just had the same problem .. I went back to the site of the big fight and I had read but not looted the letters in the trunk.

As soon as I looted them the cut scene triggered.
