question about freezing
this was an issue that arose a while back but i never really fixed. This game used to run fine on my computer, then at some point (honestly don't recall if it was after an update or not) it would begin to freeze after a little bit of play time. This would have been just a minor annoyance of simply often saving and restarting but for the fact that when i go to end the process in my task manager it would come up with the message indicating the process is not working but wouldn't actually shut down the process thus resulting in me having to restart my entire computer to clear it so i can start the game again. This wouldn't fix what ever was the issue and it'd freeze again after a time of playing.
I'm not sure if i just missed a discussion that already addressed this or not, but i figured I'd see if anyone else hashad this issue and found a solution. I can't post my Dx just this moment as i am on my mobile away from my computer, but if it's needed to help figure out cause I'll put it up when I'm back home.

have you tried running the game in a different compatability mode yet? And have you turned off the DEP for this game yet ?

Have tried different compatibility, have not tried shutting DEP off.

turn off DEP .

1. CLICK THE START BUTTOM AT THE LOWER LEFT OF THE DESKTOP SCREEN
2. WHERE IT SAYS "SEARCH PROGRAMS AND FILES" BOX TYPE IN THERE ( SYSDM.CPL)
3.THE BOX THAT APPEARS HAS 5 TABS ACROSS THE TOP OF IT. CHOOSE (ADVANCE)
4.THE FIRST ONE LABLED (PERFORMANCE, VISUAL EFFECTS,PROCESSOR SCHEDULING,MEMORY USAGE......... CLICK THE (SETTINGS) BUTTON.
5.THERE WILL BE A LIST, BUT DON'T WORRY ABOUT THAT.....ACROSS THE TOP OF THAT WINDOW BOX ARE 3 MORE TABS. CLICK (DATA EXECUTION PREVENTION)
6.YOUR DEP SHOULD PROBABLY BE TURNED ON ALREADY.

7.Click the Data Execution Prevention tab, and then click Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select.

BUT NOW YOU CAN "ADD" A GAMES EXECUTION FILE (THE ONE THAT STARTS THE GAME UP) TO THE LIST SO YOU CAN THUS TURN IT OFF WHEN YOU PLAY JUST THAT GAME. YOUR GAME START FILE WILL ALMOST ALWAYS LOOK SOMETHING LIKE THIS: (RTC3.EXE) FOR RAILROAD TYCOON 3, OR ( PR2.EXE) FOR PORT ROYALE 2. IN YOUR CASE YOU WILL WANT TO ADD BALDUR'S GATE OR BGEE.EXE LOCATED IN THE BALDURS GATE DIRECTORY: C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\STEAM\STEAMAPPS\COMMON\BALDUR'S GATE ENHANCED EDITION\......SCROLL DOWN TO BGEE AND HIGHLIGHT IT AND ADD THE EXECUTABLE TO THE DEP LIST.....DONE.

NOTE: THIS IS IN CAPS INORDER TO SEE IT BETTER WHILE TROUBLESHOOTING YOUR COMPUTER.

I'll give it a shot when i get off work. If it works i shall shower you with appreciation and backed goods. If it doesn't i shall cry like a little girl and eat the baked goods to comfort my depressed BG'less soul.

1.remeber u may have to put the compatability mode back to where it was.
2. reinstall the game maybe ....and or...
3. reinstall OpenAl

you may need to reinstall OpenAl. there is a folder in your baldurs gate directory if you look for it. Just click and reinstall OpenAl program.

Well I've had the game uninstalled for a while after the issues persisted so when i reinstall all its settings should be back to default.

maybe or maybe not. you would think so but you may want to check in your Documents folder and make sure that the baldurs gate config/options file is deleted. this is also where your save games files are too and many times unistalls do NOT remove save game files and thus that config/options file. Hope i have helped you thus far....good luck, God speed.
