Broken weapons
Not sure what happened with this last patch. But I'm seeing weapons breaking litterally every other time I get into combat. Katanas, Axe, Long Swords, you name it. It's breaking. This is happening with all my toons.

Anyone else having this problem?

Weapons break because there is an iron shortage in the land and what iron there is, is bad. It's suppose to be random and you should carry multiple weapons until you get some magic ones that do not break.

Or just use ranged weapons, they never break.

Use your fists!!! Monks ftw. XD
(Or the other stuff too, but seriously, monks are cool)

You just have really bad luck lately. Sometimes it happens all the time, sometimes it never happens.

And monks are the joke class for BG1.

Katana and Ninja-to weapons shouldn't break at all.

Weapons break randomly. It could happen every round of every battle or never at all.. It's part of the main story and will stop happening once you finish that questline; however, as mentioned above:

This is because they are made from Eastern ore and are thus not affected by the contamination of the sword coast ore. Are you certain a katana broke?

He is right these weapons shouldn't be breaking.
Also, I noticed rolls of 1 or 20 seem to increase the odds from breaking.

Because why? There is to my knowledge nothing in FR lore that says those weapons are exclusive to the eastern themed areas. They could just as easily be crafted on the sword coast as they are after all still made out of steel.

I'm not really knowledable on Forgotten Relm lore, I was just stating a fact that these weapons do not break like other non magical weapons. A satisfactory lore explanation is given above... true, nothing is stopping a smith from making a Katana... but for the sake of immersion lets just believe that every eastern theme weapon you do find in BG1 is from the far east (also keep in mind that these weapons were not even in the original BG).

The stronger you are, the more likely you are to break your weapons too. It increases with strength. And sometimes you just get bd roles. I remember one game where I had all of Minsc's weapon slots filled with two hnded swords. (thats a lot of swords.) and in one battle he broke all of them in pretty much one turn. Never was I so happy to have finally gotten to the point where I had spiders bane to give him so he'd stop breaking swords.

Staffs and clubs are made of wood, thus unaffected by the iron shortage.
