How do I get past the web traps in Cloakwood?
Title says it all. I tried using Imoens hide in the shadows ability but it won't work.

Not hide in shadows, but detect traps. Set AI for doing it automatically, but it still takes some time (roll) to detect. You can also summon or charm animal to be a fodder.

You can use Spider's Bane or Ring of Free Action to trigger all traps in the area.

Hi. Get your thief quaff an invisibility potion & use detect traps to source them out. Disable AI so they don't auto attack enemies in sight. Jaheira has 1 if she is in your team. Good luck.

You should detect and disarm them, as already suggested. You should alternate stealth and detect trap, in order to avoid being attacked (ore use 2 character, if you have them, one moving stealth and the other following detecting/disarming traps.
Another trick is to move hiding in shadows, and go back when you activate one trap, waiting the end of the web to move forward, where usually there's an encounter with spiders/ettercap. You could clear the area without disarming traps but it takes more time.

The method I use is cast 'invisibility' on my rogue who will be detecting traps either with a scroll or with a mage who has the spell.
Hopefully, you put some points into Detect Traps from the start of the game because if you can't get through Cloakwood, you'll be pulling your hair out when you get to Durlag's Tower.

Anyways, once your rogue is invisible, just walk them around while detecting traps and disarm them if possible. If you can't disarm them, at least you know where they are.

Neither of these functions causes you to break invisibility. You could talk the entire area and disarm all the traps without ever breaking invisibility.

Also, I wouldn't speed walk. Take a few steps, stop, take a few more, stop...etc.
The Detect Traps function cycles every few seconds so it is possible that there is a trap right in front of you that you haven't yet seen. Once the skill cycles another round the trap should become visible.

Good luck and have fun :)

Late, but where's Spider's Bane? I know that I'm looking for someone's brother who's looking for it, and I thought maybe he's on the upper half of the map because I can walk through the lower half fine.

Second location, spider nest.

How high of a Find Traps do I need to safely negotiate Cloakwood? How about Durlag's? Imoen has 65, but I could probably get her up to 90 before I went to either of those places.

I went to Durlag's Tower with 100 detect traps and it worked alright if you go slow.
I bumped it up to 110 and now it works like a charm.

I took her in at 65, and it was pretty brutal. She was missing something like one out of every four traps, and a third of the ones she did find, she wasn't able to disarm.

I returned when she reached 90, and so far she's spotted and disarmed all but one. Definitely doable, just slow.

been counting down the xp 'til I can get there, but I'm afraid I'll be done done by the time I do...

There is the lvl 2 divine spell "find traps" which would allow you to reliably detect traps even if you cannot disarm them.

Thanks for the advice on finding traps in Cloakwood and Durlag's.

Now one more question -- What thief skill is used to disarm traps? Open Locks? Or Set Traps?
listless Jul 26, 2021 @ 7:20pm
The Find Traps skill also disarms traps. It's the thieving button - F5 by default for Imoen.
