well if you go outside the friendly arm inn, there is a temple, and they charge you like 800 gold to raise a dead companion.

you do have 800 gold? alternatively get new companions, the old ones are obviously defective.

you can afford to do this once or twice but will quickly run out of money if you keep letting them die. You can also let them die strategically to split up worthless pairs like minsc/dyna (she is very poorly made, he is pretty solid) or khalid and jahira (he won't fight, one hit and he runs as if hit by a fear spell, useless). Worst kept secret: the starter area outside candlekeep has a 500 gold diamond that should finish gearing your team up with enough to rez someone who croaked at least once.

Khalid does not run away in terror after one hit.

although I do eventually give him kiels helmet to make fun of him, he's got a decent enough HP pool to take avantage of the goblet.

Had more trouble with Jahiera getting her a decent weapon though the dagger of venom in Beregost did a decent work until I got her some better daggers.

Minsc Isn't that good, I mean he's got pretty low CON and no shield. I give him potions of fortitude for the serious fights like I would with Dorn.

He's alot better hopped up on potions of fortitude. otherwise he dies nearly as much as dynaheir and his role is to take hits.

I cant see how you like minsc and hate Khalid. I mean I suppose he has more strength for bigger armor but if you do rassaad's questline you get a belt that sets strength to 19 for Jahiera and you can grab some gloves that set strength to 18/00 for Khalid.

before then have your mage cast strength on them to give them 18/50 strength for serious fights

minsc is solid with the composite bows. He can use a shield and longsword. With only 2 clicks in weapon style he can manage 3 weapons (2h , 1h, and bow) pretty well in BG1.
And I have nothing but trouble with Khalid running away early game. Later on, he is much better, but I usually get irritable long before that.

I normally head south at high hedge and do some quests with 1 party member before recruiting Khalid, I went and did melancamp and basilus and used the money to buy some potions of mirror eyes and killed some basilisks.

got him at 32,000 XP and he doesnt run away.

I assume this is because he has enough HP to survive, unlike minsc who just dies.

I gave Minsc two short swords with the associated prof points. my thief has the shortbow. Khalid has a longbow too, but I rarely use it. I prefer the Cast invisibility, locate enemies throw fireballs at enemies since the game gives you enough wands of fireball for that.

which is why Dynaheir is good. she can manage that at least. she eventually got the +3 sling from Durlag's tower and some bullets of 1d4 elemental damage.

but shes not about that. she's about the fireballs.

I play on Core rules. and my biggest issue was minsc, and it was solved with potions of fortitude.

morale seems to work off your % of health. If someone falls below half health they need to make a morale check, or something along those lines. Delaying getting him would work fine as his HP shoot up as does his AC, making him durable. If you get him at level 1 like the game encourages you to do, one hit and hes done fighting for 5 min. Try it sometime ... its kinda funny, the first 2-3 times, then its just playing a 5 man team and gets old in a hurry.
