Dispel magic help
I recently killed an enemy called "Doomsayer", I won't say where he is but he's a pretty tough guy. He runs in with blur and flame blade pre-cast, so I thought I'd have Branwen cast her Dispel Magic spell on him to get rid of it. The problem is, after saving and loading and trying a total of 10 times, i gave up, it never dispelled!

Is he immune, or is branwen at level 5 not powerful enough to land the dispel magic? is there an arcane version I can teach to Neera? Or is Dispel magic cleric only?

The base chance to dispel is 50%. If the caster is of a higher level than the creator of the effect, add in 5% per level. If lower, subtract 10% per level. Looking in EE Keeper, its hard to tell what level it is, since it has three boxes 6, 9 and 5. It does have the THAC0 of a level 13 warrior, though. But being a creature, its THAC0 might not have any bearing on its level.

Doing some testing, I was able to dispel the Blur effect, though its technically granted by a ring. In the spell description for Flame Blade, it makes no metion of Dispel, while some other weapon creating spells, like Phantom Blade, do say they can be dispeled.

Yes, there is an Arcane version of Dispel Magic, it functions the same way as the Divine version.

I should probably see about downloading Infinity Explorer again. Would be more useful than EE Keeper for stuff like this. I'll need to see if I can remember how to use it. :p

Doomslayer perhaps???An armoured figure with a flaming sword???It's a innate ability or something like that me thinks....:TalismanDwarf:

He doesn't have equipment, so it's not granted by a ring or anything like that. and I've read that it can be done, the problems is am I just unlucky? Or what level is this guy? Maybe level 5 isn't high enough or it was like a 10-20% chance...

It has an undroppable helm (many creatures, especially those immune to critical hits have invisible/undroppable helms), an undroppable set of plate mail, and a pair of undroppable rings. One provides the Blur effect, the other has a generic ring description, and I cant tell what it does using EE Keeper.

I also could not determine what level it is using EE Keeper.

Maybe it's been updated in the Enhanced Edition of Baldur's gate. I was originally having trouble against it because I wasn't able to hit it properly with a team of level 4-5. So I read from multiple sources that using Dispel Magic erases his blur and his flame blade.

Without his flame blade he is reduced to punches, making him much easier to defeat. I ended up killing him with a combination of Magic missile, magic missile wands, and a backstab with the dagger of venom+2, but I was a little disappointed the dispel didn't work

It uses the same weapon as what you'd get with Flame Blade but it doesn't count as being a spell in this case. So you can't dispel it.

Ah I see, so the enhanced edition changes this, and it can't be done. Blarg. Ah well, at least I know it wasn't my luck then.
