PLEASE tell me which items do I keep
I'm a crpg veteran, the old baldur games are some of the only ones I haven't played yet.

Please tell me if there are any items I should be keeping, aside from weapons and armor

What about gems and jewellry ? It's so annoying when games do not tell you this yet your inventory space is almost non existent

You can safely sell most gems and jewellery in BG1. Quest related ones usually have a name on it, for example Joseph's Greenstone Ring.

Off the top of my head, these are the generic ones for some minor quests.
2 Emeralds
1 Sphene Gem
1 Angel Skin Ring

You can safely throw away MOST letters/documents/notes, etc. You can always just stash them all somewhere just in case.

If you play Siege of Dragonspear, you'll get loads of random junk so it's hard to remember what exactly is important, but there is a quest for an Aquamarine Gem.

In BG2/ToB, you'll need some gems for crafting. And also one to access a special area.
-Rogue Stone
-Beljurils
-Diamonds
-Emeralds
-King's Tears
-Star Sapphires

Any Jewelry thats named you want to keep, like Hopper Says Joseph's Greenstone Ring is needed for a quest, theres an amulet south of Beregost if i remember which you need as well.
Otherwise it is 95% of the time safe to sell it.

But even then if you sell something accidently all your usually missing out on is some exp, and later in the game it is easy to grind Ankhegs if you need more exp.

There are some items which transfer to BG2 IF they are on your character when you make the final save. Balduran's Helm is a very useful item and can also earn you a hidden badge in BG2.

Then there are the Golden Pantaloons. These may (or may not) have started as a joke, but if you keep them all the way through BG1, SoD, and BG2, in ToB you will be rewarded with a great Easter Egg.

YOu might need to look up the Golden Pantaloons tho, i'v played BG1 & 2 since the 90s and i didnt even know what you could do with those until the days of the enchanced Edition
If you plan on playing the expansion ´´Siege of dragonspear´´, i recommend on holding your most expensive gems within a gem bag and only sell them after the ´´tragic event´´ that happens on the beginning of the DLC

Inventory management isb oring, but with 6 characters and container you have a lot of space.

First, take Neera into the party, take her gem purse (then you can also dismiss her).

Buy any other cotainer you can (potion and scrolls, actually you can also get it for free). Also more than one.

I sell all the gem, except the one with name ralated to quests (Joia, Joseph, and so on), if you need one later you can buy it back.

I usually take all the wands, until I have more than one, then I start selling them. Expecially when you buy it recharged you don't need more than 1-2 for each type. I sell all the scrolls, except 2-3 life saving. I sell all the scroll of protecion, execept from undead.

Choose one container always accessible (e.g. in Beregost) and put everything you don't need but you dont' wanto to sell in. You can also take it later. Also from store you cana lways take it back paying.

You can gather an infinity amount of gems, scrolls, potions and ammunitions on BG:EE using the portable storage items. Locations bellow in spoiler:

Gem bag - Neera's Inventory if join or killed
Ammo belt - Doesn't exist in BG:EE but can be consoled "BAG05"
Potion case - Purchase from the Wizard in the High Hedge Tower
scroll case - Bring a copy of the "History of the Fateful Coin" book to Firebead Elvenhair in Beregost and he give you one

I remember another bit of jewelry you need to hold onto. In the city proper, Scar gives you a quest to find a missing person down in the sewers. When you solve it (no spoilers) you will find ruby ring and it is identified with the person's name. Although you could sell it and get the same price (875 gold IIRC) as the other ruby rings in BG1, it is better to give it to Scar. I have never tried giving him one of the other ruby rings but since this one is named I would expect he would not accept a substitute.
