Friendly Arms Inn problem
I cannot enter Friendly Arms Inn through North of the map that I came from the castle that Gorion fled with me from.

I have a custom party of a custom Shaman, a custom Fighter/Mage, a custom Thief, added Imeon but did not add Xzar and his friend. I turned off the map bordering problem but still, I could not enter Friendly Arms Inn myself....

To get to the Friendly Arm Inn starting from the area where you and Gorion were ambushed and Imoen joined you, you have to travel East and then North.

Unlike Baldur's Gate 2, BG1's map had to be explored. When you first enter a new area, you should gather your party to each of the 4 edges and attempt to travel. This will enable the next new area in that direction. Sometimes you will not be allowed to travel from one of the map's edges, this is usually because you are at the edge of the game's world, or you are not allowed to enable the next area in that direction. For example, North of the area you mentioned is Cloakwood, which restricted until Chapter 4. There are mods for the base game that enable it earlier, but BG:EE stayed to the base game.

You can't do it. Noone can. Dont' try to travel directly there.
Travel east and from the following area travel north.

If the overview map is explicit about an area being "unreachable", it is exactly that. You need to travel some more through a nearby area from which you can exit to the final destination.

AR2600 (Candlekeep) -> AR2700 (Crossroads, Gorion's items) -> east -> AR2800 (south of Friendly Arm Inn) -> north -> AR2300 (Friendly Arm Inn)

Leaving an area at its North/South/West/East border, each exit may unlock a different area on the world map.

Btw, in the enhanced edition, the area transition directions have changed a bit compared with the ancient original game. In case you follow an old walkthrough, keep that in mind.

Thank you all for the explanations. I'll try going East. It was weird though. If it says north but you can't do it going directly north..... What's the point of having a "Friendly Arms Inn - North" plaque in the first map? Why not place it in the next one? :P

There is no such sign at Crossroads AR2700. There is a sign that tells Candlekeep is to the west, and regardless of whether you follow the paved coast way or leave the area anywhere else to the north or the east, you can reach AR2800 aka "South of Friendly Arm Inn". Only in that area you find the large pillar that tells about several directions, such as Friendly Arm Inn to the north.

I mean, what exactly do you hope for? On the world overview map, when you spot the next area south of FAI, why would you want to skip it and not travel through it? I don't get it. Fast-travelling becomes available on the overview map as soon as you've visited an area before.

Btw, explorers can also leave crossroads south and unlock High Hedge (AR3200). That's due to the semi-open world implementation of this first BG game.

I think the guy you meet just before you come across Xzar and Montaron even explicitly tells you to go east, then north to reach the Friendly Arm.
