recruiting yeslick orothiar
i noticed when i recruited kivan earlier, the party member who left the party when he joined just basically stood around in that spot where kivan joined the party (someone had to go because of party size limitations)

now i'm thinking about picking up yeslick just to change the pace a little bit, but he's talking about flooding the mines to stop the Iron Throne from accessing the iron inside... so I'm wondering what will happen to the party member who gets bumped out of the party down here in the mines so that Yeslick can join my party? Will they still be recruitable even after the mines are flooded...? because i am guessing i won't be able to come back to this area after the flooding...?

Some companions stay where you leave them, while others will reappear somewhere else or disappear entirely.

If you talk to Yeslick but do not recruit him, you can find him again in the city of Baldur's Gate (which conveniently becomes accessible after you clear that mine). He will be inside the inn of the south district. IIRC, not talking to him at all is how you leave him to drown. :steamsad:

If you do recruit him in the mine... Well, it depends on the party member you leave. I think the only other mobile companions are the EE ones (Dorn, Baeloth, Rasaad and Neera).

So before I flood the mines if I am bringing Imoen or whatever her name is, I need to eject her from the party somewhere above ground before I go to pick up Yeslick then so she stays alive from the flooding?

Neera will return to the Friendly Arm Inn. It seems like Imoen does too, but not certain.

Saw some gameplay video of someone else playing... and they also mention deliberately coming up from the mines after working their way to Yeslick so they can drop off one of the surplus party members up there to enable them to recruit them again in the future. So apparently it's true you lose access to that party member if you bump them out of the party to recruit Yeslick inside the mines and complete that mission while they are still loitering around down in the mines.
Handling of dismissed companions is somewhat immersion-breaking. The path out of a dungeon may not be safe, and still a dismissed companion may wander off to a later meeting point like Friendly Arm Inn. Similarly, leaving behind dismissed companions somewhere in a dungeon or in the wilderness is a strange choice, too. Particularly, if they will wait at that location forever - without ever showing a sign of life and going somewhere else.
