Ya seriously MythForce? Looks like He-Man and Borderlands had a baby.
If Beamdog hired better writers and made another isometric game I'd give it a shot. These days its so impossible to get a good CRPG from North America that doesn't hammer 7 paragraph text descriptions, have multiple romances with everyone represented, or focus on inserting current politics/sociological/societal issues. I can barely get through a Pathfinder game because of this, even though I can tell the system and gameplay would be excellent if they actually made a decent story with unique characters.
And this one doesn't even make sense. You're saying that if the story and characters were well done, that the game's rules and gameplay would be better. That isn't logical. You can have a good story and crappy combat and vice versa.
Pathfinders characters are so atrocious the game mechanics don't make up for it. Baldur's Gate has minimal character building and the mechanics are good making it a fun game. Pathfinder's characters are such in your face "subversions" (with paragraph after paragraph of poorly written, unnecessary description/backstory) that playing the game is a chore.
Pillars of Eternity was far too "wordy" as well. Four paragraph descriptions for something mundane doesn't mean you're playing an rpg, it is some writer going a bit overboard. Hence, North American crpgs tend to "hammer 7 paragraphs of FLUFF UNNECESSARY TEXT at you, insert inorganic, representation for all romances, and deal with current social issues (EX: this guy is modelled after this president who I haaaate!).
I get you want to defend it because you probably love that stuff (judging by the tone of your reply), but some people want a good story (even if it is simplistic) with BELIEVABLE characters, and no current social issues or politics in their game, a thing that seems to be impossible for larger studios these days (especially in North America).
I played Wizardry 6 for the first time last year and found it extremely fun. I still love the BG series and Icewind Dale, I thought King Arthur: Knight's Tale was great. Guess what these games put their focus on?
Also something that might be easy to overlook, if you like to use mods, most of the mods that have been created or updated after SoD came out are going to assume you have it. So if you install things properly you will have better mod support with SoD.
I actually thought the idea of filling in the gap in the story between BG I and BG II with SoD was a pretty cool idea and I think they did a pretty good job with it overall. Some of the new companions I really like. Some I really dislike but you don't have to use the ones you don't like.

Things like this are becoming more and more common, I am tired of seeing it and I will call out that kind of behavior when I see it.
this is becomming more and more common on steam you will just be baned at times pointing this out its happen before will it hear? I dunno maybe
dont trust the relationship that is being shown tho no offence to others
Honestly, it felt kind of like a dump taken on the IP. A what if for between the games, that just makes me wish it was left to the imagination.
Maybe I am being too harsh and I should give it another go,
