You may find it difficult at first, but once you learn how systems work it gets better. Try with easier difficulty settings at first.

It's as hard as you want it to be. I recommend that you read about THAC0 before you start playing, it's a small investment of time to learn how to increase your evasion. Normal or "Core" rules are fine.

The odds of dying is high until you get a little armor and level up a couple of times, that being said, you just reload if you do die. Overall it isn't too difficult to beat, and if your struggling you might look at a guide for creating characters, but really it that bad either.

ya not that hard SoD and 2 will be where you need to know what your doing, just expect to die especially early on and beyond that not much.

I wouldn't call it hard...it is just really luck based. Even after a couple levels if an enemy rolls a bunch of 20s in a row you are dead...nothing you can do about it.

Well, other than being proactive. Making use of sneak attacks or casting AOE spells from outside the fog of war will often make enemies not even get a chance to roll. If you don't have the game memorized then you will have to scout ahead a lot to do that...or I suppose spam the quick save button and just reload after hitting a group of enemies.

Let me tell you, i finished final boss today. It took 8 hours. XD if you have patience, play. Otherwise, NEVER.

Also this game is really old, even with "ee" your party doesnt move properly in narrow zones and turn based title is not like xcom or other games hard to catch your party in fights.

But at the end, if you have patience and will to play. You gonna feel like you finished Lord of the rings book series. Unique experience, epic soundtracks, fun, epic, amazing dialogs, masterpiece game, really is.

this is the one game that you actually have to read the manual to understand the mechanics first

hard... that's a thing. with a stupid coincidence you can be one hit down, even with a little wolf. but you can save regularly, so everything becomes quite manageable :cta_emo7:
welcome cypher to one of the best rpg´s ever.just follow what the people before me said.do some reading(manual)watch a few how to play videos on youtube maybe.then thre is a great walkthrough on game banshee.just ignore million shop...if that person needed 8 hours to beat the final boss that person is not a source you should pay attention to...(no offense million but you should have spend those 8 hours on somthing important like baking christmas cookies^^).and if you are new to the game cypher i suggest you pick a fighter char on your first play.i like the fighter kit berserker.a inquisitor paladin is also cool.
in bg1 ranged weapons are great so make sure you skill among that line...kivan is great as a party member.to make things easier(though some consider it cheating)play the black pits first.level your char there and by some nifty items then export your char at say l 6-7 with good eq and start bg1.makes it a bit easier.i wish you luck and fun and a merry xmas

It's much easier if you use some survival techniques - get monsters to chase someone around while another shoots with a bow - this gets you through the early levels

the party members getting stuck and not moving unless you move everyone manually is DUE TO the ee. this bug wasn't present in the original game. sadly beamdog never fixed this :(

Take the coward option (mine) and just take the easiest difficulty level for the first time playing.

Party will not even be able to die, they will instantly resurrects if dying in battle.

A surprisingly tame and easy going difficulty mode to allow you to get the hang of the game before starting a more serious run.

The hardest part is learning the rules and "low level hell". Once you get used to 2e D&D rules and hit level 3, it's pretty easy except for a couple of encounters.

If you take the old school approach that consumables are to be saved for an encounter that never comes, you're probably making the game harder than it should be. If you use the potions and wands the game gives you, you can cut down on the difficulty a lot. You can also recover the charges on items by selling them and buying them back from merchants.

As others have said, the most difficult part of the game is the first few hours, which is an odd design choice but there you go. After that, the difficulty smooths out considerably, save for a few spikes here and there.

And yes, the narrow dungeons where all your party members get stuck on each other is infuriating and makes me wonder if they even playtested those bits. Maybe the idea is to leave part of your party behind for those areas?

I just finished the EE for the first time. took me 46 hours and for the endboss I needed 3 hours until I got it right (and maybe lucky with some rolls).
