Well, other than being proactive. Making use of sneak attacks or casting AOE spells from outside the fog of war will often make enemies not even get a chance to roll. If you don't have the game memorized then you will have to scout ahead a lot to do that...or I suppose spam the quick save button and just reload after hitting a group of enemies.
Also this game is really old, even with "ee" your party doesnt move properly in narrow zones and turn based title is not like xcom or other games hard to catch your party in fights.
But at the end, if you have patience and will to play. You gonna feel like you finished Lord of the rings book series. Unique experience, epic soundtracks, fun, epic, amazing dialogs, masterpiece game, really is.
in bg1 ranged weapons are great so make sure you skill among that line...kivan is great as a party member.to make things easier(though some consider it cheating)play the black pits first.level your char there and by some nifty items then export your char at say l 6-7 with good eq and start bg1.makes it a bit easier.i wish you luck and fun and a merry xmas
Party will not even be able to die, they will instantly resurrects if dying in battle.
A surprisingly tame and easy going difficulty mode to allow you to get the hang of the game before starting a more serious run.
If you take the old school approach that consumables are to be saved for an encounter that never comes, you're probably making the game harder than it should be. If you use the potions and wands the game gives you, you can cut down on the difficulty a lot. You can also recover the charges on items by selling them and buying them back from merchants.
And yes, the narrow dungeons where all your party members get stuck on each other is infuriating and makes me wonder if they even playtested those bits. Maybe the idea is to leave part of your party behind for those areas?
