I would play the expansion between BG EE 1 and EE 2 personally.

BG1, including Tales of the Sword Coast, then SoD, then BG2, then Throne of Bhaal.

Hopefully by the time you are done with SoD, BG2 will have the David Warner voice pack.

Personally, I would play through the original series first: BG1 EE into BG2 EE, original expansions and all. Then go back and play through Siege of Dragonspear after.

Despite being chronologically in between the two, no one involved in the original save the voice actors really had a proper hand in it. It's better to see it as a spin-off than a real proper expansion and, as such, I think it's better to absorb it separately. There's a noticable difference in writing style as well that might be a bit jarring if you're jumping from the OG to the new and back in again.

you should make a party of all axe throwing fighters for starters and just expand from there.

focus on ranged sounds like a good idea for the beginning, though i´d dual class 2 rogue-warrior, 1 cleric-warr, 1 mage-warr. keep the resting as low as possible.
also u got 6 healthpools to grind through :x

The Story in Order goes BG-SoD-BG2-ToB since you can Import your Last Save out every Game into the Next i would stick to that Particular order.
it also Helps to emerge in the Story then having your same CHARNAME in every addon.

the harder question is , WHAT should you play... lugging the same character around for a 3 Digit Hour count is tricky !

what about the black pit where does that fit in?

thats an outside thing , has nothing to do with the BG story , but a fun thing for in between if you have to beat 3-4 Hours.

Black Pit is it's own contained story and doesn't involved Garon's Ward at all.

BG1 (or BGEE) automatically continues into SOD after the final fight and video sequence. That is because it is the same program executable for the base game and the DLC. Currently, you also take over some containers (Gem Bag, Scroll Case, Potion Bag), which the game tries to delete when importing a savegame file instead.

Black Pits 1 happens before BG1 (you can recruit Baeloth Barrityl), dunno about Black Pits 2

Starting "Siege of Dragonspear" before playing Baldur's Gate II for the first time is like watching "The Hobbit" movies before LOTR trilogy or Star Wars prequels before seeing the original trilogy for the first time.

None of the events that happened in Siege of Dragonspear is even mentioned in BG2 (Fortunately). So think Siege of Dragonspear more as paid fan-made mod instead of having huge part in Baldur's Gate Saga.

My personal preference is play BG:EE, then BG2:EE. And ignore the newer characters and expansion entirely.
