So, what's your favorite Infinity Engine game?
I always loved Icewind Dale II a lot, don't even know why but yeah. Probably that or Planescape: Torment. :AetherRay:

IWD Series.

Baldurs Gate 2. Hands down.

Since i first played it many many years ago it became my favourite of all time. Only recently it got competition from the Witcher 3, but that´s more because i love Sapkowski´s world. Anyway, i play it at least once a year.

Some people like BG1 one more, but i loved the approach to give companions more of a character, more to say and yes, even romances. It´s one of the few games that did that aspect justice.

My opinion of course ;)

Love the Icewind Dale games too, but not for the story really and Torment is a classic.
Of course, this one by Beamdog®. It helps to push such progressive mores on the goys! :shivahstar:

I wouldn't consider Siege of Dragonspear a game but moreso a paid mod or fanfiction or stuff. :P

Never really understood why, BG2 is better in almost every aspect compared to the first one.

Yeah, I can't remember what was or wasn't on the Infinity Engine, but if Planescape: Torment was, it wins.

Baldur's Gate II ... as it's still one of my top 5 favorite games of all time. Along with Civilization V, The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, Witcher 3 and Dragon Age: Origins.

I could go into long details why I love BG2 so much. But to keep it short, the story itself is what makes BG2 so fantastic. Baldur's Gate 1 as a whole feels like a prologue/tutorial for Baldur's Gate II. Iam always having a hard time choosing who are the 5 characters I want to pick along for my adventure.

This is the reason why I disliked Siege of Dragonspear so much. My expectations were too high to forget that these are not the same writers who created characters like Anomen, Keldorn, Jan Jansen, Valygar Corthala and Yoshimo.

Actually hard to pick. I will say hands down the worst are The Black Pits side games and Siege on Dragonspear.

Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment... they're all fantastic in their own ways.

IWD Series. I love the visuals, story, and audio. Masterpieces.

IWD 2 was my least favorite of the classics, but I loved the original. Blows my mind that it was a fairly budgeted title. Voice acting and atmosphere was top notch.

Oh man. Especially the character soundsets. "Male Mage 4".. Still my favorite.

I'm a bit more interested in the story than the combat, so Torment is the best for me without hesitation. I love how intricate the dialogue trees are, and that you can really roleplay and choose not only what you do, but your character's reasons and attitude at the same time. It was an awesome experience after getting used to how most RPG's just have 2-3 choices and you don't really get to shape the character's personality. And of course I love how much depth there is in the game with all of the interesting locations and characters. I was somewhat disappointed by the final ending scene (I wish it had been a little bit more different depending on the choices I made) but other than that I loved pretty much everything about the story, artwork, atmosphere, etc. The combat was a bit awkward and a few places aggravated me, but I still enjoyed exploring all of the places and I couldn't wait to see what I discovered next.

And next would definitely be Baldur's Gate 2. I wasn't in love with the first game because the focus was more on other things besides the story, and I didn't really like having big empty spaces with not much other than combat in them. However, BG2 took a different direction and focused much more on the story and developing the characters, not to mention designing areas with more detail, and I loved it.

I haven't gotten around to Icewind Dale 1-2 yet (I heard they were more focused on combat and I'm not sure if I'll like it, so I've been holding off on playing them for now).

Are there any other Infinity Engine games I've forgotten?

Yeah IWD titles are FAR more combat oriented than the Baldur's Gate games. Which is why i recommend grabbing them only after you're fair and square with BG1 & 2 and still think you could do with more. Because when it comes to combat and replay value i personally don't think any of the other IE games trumps IWD2.

Baldur's Gate (1998)
Planescape: Torment (1999)
Icewind Dale (2000)
Baldur's Gate II (2000)
Icewind Dale II (2002)

These are all the Infinity Engine games, not counting the expansion sets released for almost every game.

I agree with you. I guess sometimes beauty lies in simplicity, not suggesting that BG is simple :) A friend of mine likes the first one more because he never got into the characters but loves the setting and combat. And the characters interact with you more in BG2. I didn´t understood him either. *shrug* I adore every character in BG2 because of that. I will never forget my first playthrough where i hooked up with Aerie or when she got a baby in ToB. I nearly lost it that THIS is actually a thing in a game. (or me fighting Firkraag for several hours because i went in with a low level party and was a dummy)

Well ok, i was rather young too back then ;)

I actually like BG 1 a bit more. It has a much more... adventurous spirit and a lighter tone. I also actually enjoy exploring the outdoor locations.
