[GUIDE] Adding Debug Mode for 2.0
For those who may have had the game uninstalled until recently (owing to the new DLC), the old Baldur.ini file has been changed to Baldur.lua, this post will show you where and how to include the command to enable Debug Mode. It's more or less the same, but format is different.

Anyone who has done this manually before probably would have been able to guess it was this, but this is strictly for those who didn't/were confused by new strings. It's better than the weird SQL database layout EE had initially.

1. Open Baldur.lua (Notepad++, etc will do this)
2. Add the following line: SetPrivateProfileString('Program Options','Debug Mode','1')
3. Start Game
4. CTRL+Space Console hype :D (with convenient inbuilt mechanisms (gold, xp, travel)).

No, CTRL+J is teleport to cursor, CTRL+Space opens the console. That the only thing I use when playing BG, saves time when traversing towns.

You're right though, I should update that. Will do so.

I edited it through Eclipse, not a text editor. All the same, I added it to the bottom and saved it as read-only to prevent a known issue of it reverting the config file. I'm not sure that happens anymore since the file system has changed but I'm also not sure what exactly was causing that. I think Steam may have had something to do with it.

Great! Thanks for the change.

About it reverting to the original file after you edited it. There was a known issue where if the path to baldur.lua contained non-ASCII characters (ü, ä, etc. for instance in the user name) it could not process it correctly. Maybe that was it?

As of today, I just read in the new patch notes for the new version, they have solved that issue.

But how do I type the cheats in?

You mean where you have to type it?

First of all, you should see the console when you press ctrl-space, do you see that?
Yes I see it. buy clau consel doesnt work. What do I type in?

Depends on what you want it to do. First of all, you always need to type 'C:'
Then a command, like 'CreateItem:', and then the code for the item you want. So you'd get for example
C:CreateItem('Bag06')
.
See for a list here[www.baldursgatemods.com]. Note, this is for an older version of clua console, you don't have to type 'CLUAConsole: anymore, and the list is probably not complete.
It worked! Thanks a lot!

Anyone know if there is a process to request this to be a skicky? Been gettting PMs about this, would prefer to just be able to link them to this thread without having to dive several pages into the board.

i found it via a search....one last question....when i make a copy of the lua file before editing anything particular i should name it? Been a long time since I set up the debug code...and am feeling kinda noobish today

I personally just add .bak to the end of it. However, if you manage to mess anything up all you have to do is delete it entirely and the Game will create a fresh one next time you launch.

Yeah just added copy to end consel is working now just trying to get the create item command to work keep getting a nil value....thought the gold cheat works tested that first

Personally I find Keeper MUCH easier to use if you want to spawn items then Debug.

BTW anyone know if theres a code for dropping party reputation....
fauxpas 2 JUL 2016 a las 8:39 a. m.
I'm sure there is but I'd either use Keeper to set it where I wanted or install the BG1 NPC Pack and pay the various Bards to "retell my exploits in a darker light" (Basically it amounts to reverse donating.).
fauxpas 2 JUL 2016 a las 8:40 a. m.
For that matter, I'd install the BG1 NPC Pack anyways for the added life it brings to the NPCs in general.

I was looking for a list of the item codes to generate them via the console, thanks a lot! What about codes for quest items? For example, in my current game, Joseph's Greenstone Ring failed to spawn for me in the mines for some reason and I'd like the item code so I can generate it and finish the quest.
