I killed Sarevok solo on Legacy of Bhaal, but I had to bring up a party at coronation ;< So it's not full solo after all even while I kick all party members after coronation.
There is little cheesy strategy for soloing Sarevok even on Legacy of Bhaal if you are mage or sorcerer.
Simple gibberlings do 16 slash damage with a single hit.
It feels like a different game. Early enemies like Karlat have become a ludicrous killing machine against a level 1 party.
Sarevok was quite easy. Stacking Skull Trap one by one, go outside of the temple, rest, go inside, stacking another pile of Skull Trap, repeat at least 6 times, then lure him into the trap (or load if f@$*ing bat destroy your plan), I even run into Skull trap myself to trigger more explosions at the same time (Minor Globe of Invulnerability is quite handy in first BG).
Stone skin and Minor Globe of Invulnerability grand protection from any trap - useful in mines or maze under thiefs guild. Improved Invisibility or Potions of Invisibility and you can go everywhere. Just run thorugh inviting party and entire mines directly to Mulahey or Davaeorn, in Iron Throne grab documents and leave.
For sure you have to be patient and buy huge amount of scrolls, potions and wands otherwise your daily limits of spells could be not enough to deal with some fights. Monster summoning can be helpful. I think all summons get stats boost like all enemies on Legacy of Bhaal.
You have to avoid debuff. The landrate is so low, there is no point in using it.
And only coronation scene is impossible imho to past without party. So I bring NPC for this fight, some of them had 4 level. Just cannon fodder - they missed almost all the time. But they serve as another damage buffor for dukes. After that I just remove them from party. Flying Solo hit in another run on core rules.
Just took me about ten reloads to help Neera with a full level 1 party. The red wizard alone does ~30 damage with magic missile if that one isn't interrupted. Enough to kill an enraged berserker with one hit. Or an acid arrow spell with 10 damage per round. My notes are at home. It's like I'm rediscovering everything from scratch.
Do Grease and Web still hit often enough and would be helpful early? Then perhaps waiting for Imoen to turn into a mage later is a bad choice and adding a wizard to the party early the better strategy.
I never use Grease, but Web was maybe the only one crowd control spell which work really well (great for Davaeorn and in Tazok's Tent). Slow is maybe a second CC spell I used, but only at coronation. Too bad cloud spells are useless and most spells which affect only creature with determined hit dice (sleep etc.).
There is no wizard in my party so early, since I'm trying something special with a custom party and Imoen still level 1. Sending a custom level 1 wizard with Shield forward may work normally but may also be a completely bad idea at LOB mode, because the red wizard is accompanied by two mercenaries. I also don't want to resurrect characters early.
Anyway, this topic is for a solo run, so I'm somewhat off-topic while trying a level 1 party.
I'm sure, custom party will be better for playing on Legacy of Bhaal. I was curious and tried to import character from Throne of Bhaal to first Baldur's Gate. It's possible, even with some new items, but in some ways it's like cheating.
Did you ever try Sword Coast Stratagems? Just on core. If not, I really recommend it.
I did try to cheese this fight several ways, and found one strategy that *might* be possible, with a bit of luck:
1) (optional) kill the Flaming Fist Mercenaries. Belt and Liia usually won't turn hostile, and will help you kill the mercenaries. Heal Belt and Liia afterwards if possible. This is because the next step tends to turn the mercenaries hostile and mess everything up.
2) Use Wand of Paralyzation on 3-5 noblemen.
3) Step into the ceremony hall and trigger the transformation event.
4) Kill the transformed Greater Dopplegangers as quickly as possible.
5) The stunned noblemen will transform when their stun wears off.
6) Kill the remaining Greater Dopplegangers.
**I've had a bit of success with casting a greater malison and spamming the Wand of Polymorphing on dopplegangers. Each successful polymorph is essentially a free kill. I sold/re-purchased the wand to get 100 charges.
Strategies that do NOT work:
1) casting Otiluke's Resilient Sphere on Belt or Liia is considered a hostile action, causing Winski to warp in and kill you.
2) blinding noblemen prevents their transformation script from executing. This is problematic because the game doesn't consider the battle "won" until 6 Greater Dopplegangers are dead.
Old post, but it's one of the first that come up searching for things about Legacy of Bhaal mode. I wasn't planing on going solo though, tried the new shaman class. Spirit animals definitley help, but you can't move or attack with them.
