Rejection - I hate rejecting people when they want to join my party
(Referring to in-game characters)

I oh-so-wish that there was a "I'm really sorry but as you can see, my party is full." Also, letting people go is terrible. The only person I don't mind getting rid of is Neera, and that's because she's a B about it.

if you dont want people because your party full, then just put a password, problem solve, you wont have to reject people because you wont have people join your game.

There are way too many companions in the series. The downside being they lack depth anyways due to quantity over quality however I think most when rejected just tend to stay there and can pick up later if want them, few exceptions though exist which vanish from the games when rejected. I personally have to keep a list of which vanish and which do not, which require other companions to pick up or quests needing completed and which will leave based on rep gains/loss, not completing something in time or conflict with other members etc.

I wish there were more companions not less. I enjoy a big open world with lots of choices with party members just like BG does. I can't stand what Bioware started doing when it went all console crap with few companion choices and forcing them into a "hub".

I agree with both of you... but I just had to refuse Corwin by basically telling her that she sucked and I didn't need her. That was not the way I wanted to say it. After all, she was the one who accompanied me to pick up all my party members at the beginning of the SoD story. So she should know better than anyone that I prepared before the trip.

But no, I had to tell her that she wasn't swift nor quiet, which is kind of rude.

My personal preference is less but better quality. It is just a preference though. In a perfect world it would be better to have more but all very high quality but unfortunatley that is rarely the case and especially in BG in which many of them have hardly anything to say or worth listening to in the first place.

I also would love to have a hub in the original BG's, it's annoying picking them up and taking them somewhere and dropping them off there so can easily find them later if wish to use them. But again this is just my preference and companions were done bit better in BG2 for example.

Something that does annoy me a little is the fact some companions wont join or wont stay if their friend or partner leaves or does not join. I do not dislike the principle of it or the ideology behind it because it does makes sense but from a gameplay mechanics PoV it is frustrating when have limited slots for members and in my case having a slot taken up by someone do not want just because is with one I do...by proxy stopping me putting in place someone else I would rather have fill that spot.

That annoys me a little just in general even though I know you can I think use some tricks to split them up but their random dialogue is quite often linked to discussions with that other person so lose out on what is already very limited dialogue and depth of companions overall I think if use those tricks.

Yes, that annoys me, too. If you want Minsc, Jaheira, and Imoen, you literally have to throw their partners into a bunch of enemies. I felt like they learned their lesson when making BG2, though.

they only lack depth if you lack imagination. these are characters of fantasy crpg game, not action game characters where characteristics are shoved into your face.

i agree with the op. right now every encounter with a potential party member ends with...

be a jerk and reject someone who's offering help

or

be a jerk and kick someone out of your party in the middle of nowhere to add new guy.

Mods are good for this sort of thing :happystarfish: BG1 NPC Project[www.gibberlings3.net] lets you send NPCs to wait at an inn, and Sword Coast Strategems[www.gibberlings3.net] lets you do that and also split up NPC pairs. (Not sure if SCS is updated for v2 of the Enhanced Edition, though.)
That is not enough text in the opening post for my taste.

Could you explain why you even ask them to join your party, if you know you don't have any room left? Only Imoen is forced into your party. All others you don't even need to talk to. For example, you can completely ignore Khalid & Jaheira at Friendly Arm Inn and still advance the main quest.

Also please explain why you "hate" it? Taking the Khalid & Jaheira example, they are story companions Gorion has recommended to you. So, obviously, if you follow the story, you get in contact with them. You are free to reject their help. What do you "hate" that? What is the reason for hatred. What's bad about removing them later and telling them the reason?

The story party consisting of main PC, Khalid & Jaheira, Minsc & Dynaheir, Imoen is fine. Derivations can be built upon other companions. Minsc will wait endlessly at Nashkel, if you ignore him. Still you can free Dynaheir on your own, and she will wait at that location then, too, if you don't ask her to join you. Other companions are singles and available very early, especially if you don't mind some extra traveling.

How can you NOT see the pressure of being asked to join? You don't do the asking. The very first two people you meet in Baldur's gate give you a potion and then expect you to accompany them in return. Jaheira won't come along if Khalid isn't needed. Then she tells you that Gorion was wrong about you. Shar-Teel asks for help and then she asks to join. If you say no, she gets pissed off at you. Xan is... well.... Xan... Baeloth just randomly appears out of nowhere and says, "I will die if I don't join you." Neera says, "I'll be killed if I don't join you." Dorn tells you what a horrible mistake you're making. Corwin just sat there and told me that she needed to be with me. I told her no. She then asked AGAIN, insisting that she join me. I then basically had to say, "You suck and no." Minsc still stays with Dynaheir in SoD.

In BG2, I had to choose between two thieves... either Yoshimo or Nalia. Nalia basically begs. Anomen is a d**k about joining. Neera stalks you like a cray-cray. Valygar is like, "Hey I can get you into this cool sphrere thing." Okay but I have a full party. "Okay, I'll wait at the Copper Coronet..." Uhhh... so I'll just skip the big sphere thing then? Okay.

How can you say that I am asking them to join? Pretty much every NPC asks you to join. Also, that's why I skip soooooooooo many side quests, just because I don't want to run into them.

And that's just all of the NPCs I remember. I stopped talking to people who I knew to be NPCs.
Jaheira & Khalid, Dorn, Minsc, Shar-Teel and Xan : they wait for you to talk to them

Neera : she asks for help defending against the group chasing her, but afterwards it's the main protagonist who can request a reward (such as having her join)

Dynaheir : you don't need to rescue her. You don't even need to explore the Gnoll stronghold, because it is completely optional and far away from your main quest

BG2 : those examples are worse, since e.g. Valygar hides in place far away, you need to track him down actively, which assumes you have a certain interest in him (even if that may be in killing him)

usually, i accept everyone i meet and then... plot twists start! people die heroically, and there are no more gold left to resurrect them, or... party must leave a fallen companion to escape slowly but steadily crawling jelly! or, a party member goes to check noises coming from near by bushes and never returns...

still, in many cases 3rd dialog option could remove so much pressure for gorion's ward...

What character in the game doesn't "wait for you to talk to them"? People who want you dead... and Noober.
