Is it normal to break so many weapons?
My main fighter guy has broken about 14 two handed swords, and I don't remember anything like that from playing the game when it came out to just last year.

Is it normal to break that many weapons? They are normal, not magical, so no big deal, but I'm having to carry 5+ of them on a long outing just in case.

Maybe 3 or 4, and playing with a group of party members, yes. But 14, no, lol, unless playing solo. Obviously you'll need to try to find a magical version of the weapon, usually one that starts unidentified. Magical weapons never break so that'll get your broken weapon nightmares out of the way.
You must really have bad luck. A total of 14 weapons from your 6 party members is more reasonable but 14 from 1 guy? That guy must really suck with weapons.
The number of broken weapons is irrelevant if you don't tell what level you've reached.

In AR4400 there is a two-handed sword +1 one can get quite early.

Sounds like a string of bad luck, or you didn't afford yourself of the opportunity to buy a magical greatsword when you had the chance. They have a chance of breaking on a critical hit so you do go through a few of them. However I don't think I've broken so many weapons on one character even with my dual wielders. I'd say I average around 5-8 broken weapons before I get magical ones.

He just turned level 5. Not sure what AR4400 is... I'm not interested in looking things up, even on my 50th playthrough lol.

Broke his first 2H sword on like the first fight.

I'm sure I'll find or buy a magical one soon; hope 7 regular is enough to get through the Gnoll Fortress...

I think my 6 man (and woman) party broke less weapons than that in my entire playthrough. Just do the nashkel mines and it will stop happening.

AR4400 is the identifying number for a map in the game, in this case the lonely peaks.

Also you're lvl 5 and haven't found any magical weapons?

There is a percentage chance per hit that a weapon will break. I've had a weapon break on the FIRST strike while using it.

Ranged weapons like Bows, crossbows, slings, darts, throwing daggers, and throwing axes don't break though.

Needless to say that normal weapons are the only type that break, magical ones will not, and you'll be able to find a magical weapon of every type within the first 2-3 chapters of the game, even a katana if you know where to look.

If you DONT know where to look, you should still stumble across a magical weapon of every type except for Katana, Wakizashi, Ninjato, Halberd, and 2 handed sword. The magical 2 handed sword and wakizashi can be gotten easily though if you encounter Dorn, Halberd is being carried by a gnoll somewhere easily reachable, katana is gonna be rough as it's in the hands of an ogre mage, and a magical bastard sword can be "Liberated" from beregost.

I've never really broken too many weapons, since I upgrade to magical ones fairly quick

Wooden weapons won't break (staves/clubs). Ranged weapons don't. And magical weapons won't break. And Katanas don't break since they're imported from Kara-tur instead of made locally, so the Iron-poisoning incident isn't affecting them.
AR4400 is north-east of the Carnival area.
