how do custom portraits work?
form what i understand i need 3 sizes a large, medium, and small, my questions are,

do they need their own individual folder {one picture with all three sizes in a single folder}

do i even need multiple sizes or will the game automatically resize them?

and is their a limit to how many portraits i can have?

thanks for any help you can provide.

All you need to know for EE is that:
1. Horizontal vs vertical ratio lengths need to preferably be roughly 1 : 1,5833(3).. (so for example 300:475px).
2. 24-bit Bitmap format.
3. "nameL.bmp" is your character sheet portrait(the large one), while "nameM.bmp" is the in-game UI portrait (the small one) if you want them to be different, otherwise having just 1 bmp file is enough and will be used everywhere.
4. Need to be put in folder "C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Documents\Baldur's Gate - Enhanced Edition\portraits", assuming your OS is run on disk C:\.

* I believe the file name needs to be 8 characters or less before the ".bmp" (so for example name1234.bmp OR name123L.bmp and name123M.bmp) and already listed sources suggest, that max available resolution is xxx:1024. So around 647:1024 or smaller. I can't confirm, but I can say that I got away with a 643:1018px portrait, while 878:1390px doesn't work.
