Cast Spells is greyed out
I just started the game and I'm playing as a sorcerer, do I have to lvl up first to be able to cast stuff or am I doing something wrong.

EDIT: Turns out I was tired

You picked your known spells at character creation and should be able to cast these spells right away.

Greyed out spells suggest that spell casting has been disabled but I am not sure how this is possible for sorcerers (it's more commonly seen in multiclass mages who lose their ability to cast when they equip armour)

ah crap, I chose magic missile and shocking grasp.

I haven't equipped anything other than darts and the default staff

Just how tired do you have to be to get to a point where you can't cast spells? I recall how I slave drove my crew so much, intentionally to see if they collapse into torpor from exhaustion or something, yet I've never seen spells be greyed out before

lol maybe I completely screwed my character when I selected the skill points? because a bit after the campaign started the spells became unavailable for me until I rested in the friendly inn.

you might have used the spells already, you can only cast your spells once every time you rest... after which you can change to slings or darts. Mages at low levels are poo poo in Baldurs Gate

By the way, where are they greyed out? I was referring to the UI, similarly how if you take a bard and equip armor, you will have spells memorized but they will be unavailable to cast until you take the armor off.

If you meant they were "greyed out" (more like transparent) in your arcane spell book that you open by clicking on the left panel, then that just means you haven't memorized them yet. To cast a spell, you first need to choose it in your spell book filling empty spaces, then rest. After a rest, you get "charges" of that spell. That's normal.

I don't know how to call this, but there is like a toolbar at the bottom of the screen when I'm playing, and there is a spells button that is greyed out or obscured and when I clicked on it nothing happened.

But after some minutes of posting this thread I went to rest in the friendly arm inn and the next day I was able to cast spells.

Thanks for that bit of info, I'll have it mind.

Hi got a problem with casting spells with my Blade char (lvl 5) i am playing EET modes. I can learn spell trough scrolls and they show up in my magic book but i cant memorize any. Does anyone have some advice? thank you

The spells on the scrolls might be of a level higher than your bard can presently cast as a 5th level blade. IIRC, a 5th level bard can only cast 1st and 2nd level spells. You can scribe any spell into your book, no matter the level, but it will only be available to memorize once you reach the required level necessary to cast it. Same thing happens with mages.

Sort of sounds like one of your mods may be the culprit. Maybe try uninstalling your mods and see if the problem is solved.
