Trying to continue Game in Chapter 7 after 2 year break, please help.

2 years ago I played through Baldurs Gate EE. I came up to Chapter 7 and kinda got stuck which made me stop playing. Since than I am kinda have finishing the game on my todo list and I finally want to get to it. I would like to play Baldurs Gate 2 and would like to finish the first one first in order to take my character to the new game. So, I am still stuck in Chapter 7 and I am also a little lost due to the fact that so much time passed since I played last.

So, here a few questions. I am at the point were I am supposed to go to the Undercellar to get Slythe and Krystin, but they are nowhere to be found. Can it be that I finished them off at a earlier encounter? Do I have to kill them to finish the game? This was the reason why I originally stopped playing.

Second, I remember that I have to go to the Ducal Palace to confront you know who (don't want to spoiler here). But I need a bunch of documents right? I only find the diary in my inventory, but what else do I need?

Slythe has the items on his corpse. You can go to the Blushing Mermaid in the northeastern quarter of Baldur's Gate to get to him. You can't enter the Ducal Palace without the invitations.

To expand on this, if you go to the Blushing Mermaid in NE Baldur's Gate, to the right of the inn there may be some Shadow Thieves and a chap named Husam. If so, speak to him and he'll take you to the Temple of Ilmater (north of that same map - check there is Husam isn't by the mermaid) and they'll let you into the undercellar via a secret passage. Slythe and Krystin should be in the middle of the Undercellar map.

The above all from memory so might be a bit...wrong, but I think it's fine and a good place to start.

Yes, I found the shadow thieves with this Husam. And they lead me to the Temple of Ilmater. But when I get to the undercellar I can't find Slythe and Krystin anywhere.

Actually, I just went to all the letters I have and I found letters from Serevok to Slythe. So, that means I must have killed Slythe some time earlier but can't remember. weird.....

But I can't find the invitation letter anywhere. Even so I vaguely remembering getting it.

This is kinda frustrating. Just want to finish the game as quick as possible to finally be able to start BG2.
