Can I recharge things?
Things like wands or whatever that have a limited charge. Can they be recharged and if so, how? Wondering how miserly to be with some of my stuff.

Before it fully runs out of charges sell it to a merchant, when you buy it back it will be fully charged again.

Interesting workaround. Thanks!

Well I call it an exploit but yeah, it works.

It won't be cheap. A Wand of Fire, for example, with a neutral reputation and CHA adjusment will be about 13k to buy it back. With max rep and a high CHA it will be about 5k

In pnp D&D you can get items recharged...also for a ton of gold. So it sort of works in Baldur's Gate like it should. The only issue is that it should only be happening at the more "advanced" shops that might have the facilities to recharge the item.

Well...and recharging the staff of striking should cost a lot more than it does.

Facilities eh? ... That is a strange choice of word for a 12th level Wizard willing to take between 3-11 days to recharge a single item with a chance of destroying said item forever. ... Because in 2nd Edition that is what it takes to recharge magical items, so no, this exploit isn't even close to how it is supposed to work in pnp.

Didn't recharging items also cost the wizard XP?

I THOUGHT that it did but from skimming the Player's Handbook and DM Guide for 2nd Edition it doesn't look like creating/recharging items does, although casting the permancy spell (required to create a non-charged item) has a 5% chance of costing the wizard a point of CON that they can never get back. I suspect that XP costs might have been introduced into 3rd Edition but don't feel like doublechecking that at the moment.

However a larger issue is that fact that recharging items really doesn't make alot of sense considering that it is spelled out that there is no method to tell how many charges an item has left other than to try it and have to crumble to dust (or simply not work depending on the item) in your hands.

2nd edition spells permanently reduced stats or shortened your lifespan by a %. (or a few with large temporary stat loss that last a day or two, like identify).

3rd changed all that to XP costs.
