Can you have different pics for the different portrait sizes?
I'm trying to have a different character pic for the character record screen than the small portrait on the right panel (close-up of face). But it's not working. I have no problem making and selecting a custom portrait, but I want different ones for the different sizes. It seems like no matter what I try, the game simply takes the pic I chose and resizes it as needed for the other uses without looking for medium or small versions. I've ...

Named all the picture files the same except for the L, M, or S at the end.
They are all bmp files.
They are all 24-bit.
They are all in the Portraits folder.
The large is 210 x 330 pixels. I also tried 210 x 300 according to some guides (probably a typo).
The medium is 169 x 266 pixels.
The small is 54 x 84 pixels.

Any ideas?

'S' is no longer used.
'L' is for the picture shown on the character record screen. 210x330 works, but larger dimensions are accepted, too.
'M' is for the avatar. The old small 54x86 portraits can simply be used as 'M' portraits.

Are your file names short or long?

Have you tried following the old recommendation to keep them shorter than 8 characters without the L/M character at the end?

Did you restart the game after adding portraits to the folder?

Btw, due to the simplicity of the ingame portrait chooser, using a 'M' prefix for males and 'F' for females is a good idea as it helps with the sorting.

I got it to work - thanks for the super fast reply!

I made the 210x330 the L pic, and the 169x266 the M pic, and didn't have a 54x84 pic at all. The weird thing is, when you go to select your custom portrait, it will show you two instances of the L pic. It think the game sees the M pic and automatically shows you the L pic in the selection screen, then when you view the L pic, it shows as-is. So you end up seeing the L pic twice. This threw me off. Although it might not matter which one you choose to make the two different pics work.

Also, I moved all my custom portraits out of the Portrait folder then saved the game. Moved them back in and then loaded and tried it again. I think it helps.

I had the same problem.

I tried to test many changes one after the other... some hours past on this...

Finally i successfully discovered a method to fix that :

My conclusion is that you must have 7 or less letters in your pics name if you want to make the difference ! 8 letters, as like before this happening, is too many for the game that didn't read the last letter... And of course the most important letter since it is the size mark of your picture.

Obviously, you must have 2 names with an equal number of letters...

Furthermore the game will make the link between "M" pic and "L" pic, not with "S" pic !!!
Your "big" portrait will logically be a "L" pic, and your "small" or "medium" portrait will have a "M" pic.

To sum up :

max : 7 letters
same number of letters

XXXXXXM : small/medium portrait
XXXXXXL : Large portrait

Probably due to a "recent" patch.
