The best racial enemy option for Ranger class?
I know that there might not be right answer for this question, but discussion might always be welcome. I just completed the game and unfortunantly I didn't ever even met my racial creatures, the trolls. Instead of these hairy monsters the sword coast is filled with xvarts, hogoblins, kobolds, gnolls, ogres, undead and many other species.

Imo the Ogre might be the safest alternative cos' they have relatively high hit points and are deadly at close range. Ogre as racial enemy also includes the ogre magis which are even more dangerous.

On the other hand, skeletons are also many on the realm and especially skeleton warriors are threat for any party.

Not trying to dissuade you from taking ogre if that's what you want, but Kivan has ogre as his racial enemy. Of course you don't have to take Kivan, or maybe you could have 2 ogre hunting Rangers.

Normal skeletons are common, and with their resistance to missle weapons you pretty much need to take them on in melee. Many of them carry throwing daggers and they'll be tossing them as you close the distance. Normal ones aren't as big a threat as the warriors, and a Cleric's Turn Undead can usually handle them. If not destroying them, it should at least make them panic. Skeleton warriors are stronger, but less common.

I like to take Spiders as mine. Fairly common and most kinds are poisonous except the Sword Spiders which hit pretty hard.

You probably already though of this, but i would go for a more common race, such as humans, for the safest bet. Also, undead in general. I don't recall how they were are categorized, but they are usually hard to deal with in D&D games, and if you transfer your stuff from here to bg2, you probably gonna get some benefit of that undead hate, specially if you don't carry any cleric with you.

Also i think the spiders one is a great idea. Poison is annoying at any level, can kill your guys out of nowhere if you are not watching closely, and needs a lot of preparation and resources to deal with.

Also nº2 xd take advantage of your experience with the game. What was the enemy harder to kill? What kind of enemies the party you are using has more disadvantage against?

I totally forgot about spiders. Those can be real pain in the ass and they usually attack in troops. Hogoblin might be useful but usually they hit the ground after 1 arrow nevertheless they were or were not racial enemy.

Kobolds, gnolls, talstois, xvarts and gibberlings are already so weak that if they were racial enemy the dmg bonus might always be an overkill.

Ghasts and ghouls - naah, they are slow enough to be handled from distance. Carrion crawlers and ettecups are too rare for using a benefit.

I wish there were the option of humans as racial enemy, but that might be bit overpowered =)

Correct. It's a restriction in BG, or maybe just Advanced DnD rules.

If you're playing through BG2 as well, I'd say Skeleton and Demonic/Fell are probably the best options. Vampire would also be a good choice but I'm not sure what category it falls under for the Favored Enemies (Ghoul maybe?).

Vampire is a valid favored enemy. I think that's Minsc's actually.

I just checked it's a choice for BG2 but not for BG.

Yeah Vampire only unlocks in BG2, where it's usually my first pick because of reasons... ;)

Demonic/fell will become useful as well.

And Troll at times.

Human will of course get the most bang for buck.

What happens if you load a BGII with vampires into BGI?
