When do I start with Siege of Dragonspear?

Hi,
I am now in Chapter 7 of BG:EE and I am wondering when do I switch to SoD?
- I mean does SoD import your last savegame or only your character?
- Will I be able to finish open quests when I start SoD?

Once you fully finish the original BG you can continue with beamsdog's SoD

If you have SoD installed, it'll automatically start after you beat the original game.

Alternatively, on the game's main screen, you can click the two big logos to switch between the base game and SOD. That makes it possible to start a new game in SOD and also import a savegame file from the base game.
