Can't get down to third level of Durlag's Tower

This is weird. I must have played this game 15 times over the last 20 years, and yet, for some reason level 2 of the Lower Tower is defeating me in that I can't get down to the next level.

I've cleared every single room and taken all the ward stones I can find on the bodies. I also have teleportation ward stones. I've been back around twice just to make sure I didn't miss something.

I'm supposed to click on a rune on the floor where you can see two bowls. But there is no place to click on the floor in my game. Normally you can see a little interaction symbol, but there isn't one. I feel like I'm going nuts. I am at the exact spot where I have always clicked on the floor and gone to the third level.

What am I doing wrong?

There is a hidden doorway to the real exit in the room with the fake exit which should open if you have the right wardstone.

I have noticed that triggering it can be a bit erratic so maybe spend a couple minutes walking around that room until the game notices that you are standing in the room? Edit to add: According to the wiki you need to try to use the hidden door while having the wardstone
