winter wolf?
Been to every area around nashkel and i haven't seen a single one. Do you have to resolve the mine issues first? am i missing crucial information?

Yea and I think I know why I didn't get a single one. Were you playing solo or with a party? I get the feeling random encounters are also partly dependent on how many party members you have. I finished my last round completely solo with a fighter and I haven't encountered a single one.

I started over with a solo shadow dancer and now I’m having this issue as well.

I just did that and I found them on the "Nashkell mine" map on the surface. Just walk around and you should find three wolves there.

They are mostly a random spawn in the areas you visit while going to the Gnoll Stronghold. In any given playthrough there could be none or many, depending on your luck.

I'm not sure how random spawns work, but I'm kinda certain you have to stay in a area and explore around in order to trigger them.

The one you can find in Nashkel mines is also random spawn, IIRC.

There are a few on a couple of the Southwest maps:
  • The map that's directly west of the mines, where you have to find the lost dog and there's a hunting party from Amn.
  • The map that's northwest of the previously mentioned map, where there are two loggers planning to cut down the Dryad's tree.

They show up as random encounters if you're traveling around that area as well.

IIRC, if you do Rasaad's personal quest, there are a few on that map as well.

Why does it matter? Why are you looking for them? Winter wolves work like ankhegs - there is a guy who pays you for the item they drop. If you need the money then just go farm ankhegs.

If you really need one then the ice island labyrinthe is full of them.

First time playing BD and I'm finding them all over the Nashkel mine. I actually had around 4 or 5 random encounters with them when resting directly outside the mine.

Yea I wanted to farm them but it looks like I am extremely unlucky. I didn't get one in any area. To the ankhegs it is then. Should be ez with ma lvl 6 fighter.

I always play with a full party so that might have been a factor.
