I feel like I'm in some small alternate universe bubble

I distinctly remember that helmets in Baldur's Gate, and D&D in general protect against critical hits. Everything I see online confirms this.

However, in game, every single piece of headgear I look at specifically says Does Not Protect Against Critical Hits.

Why does it feel a need to point out what it doesn't do? Why does this contradict everything I thought I knew and everything I find on the internet? What's heppening with my brain?

Are you using a localized version ? maybe it's a typo. Or maybe you're using a mod that rebalance the items ?

shouldn't they only protect from random knock outs? they do not prevent from receiving critical hits for sure...
