However, you probably shouldn't have a Paladin turn undead. They level slower than a Cleric and their Turn Undead ability trails 2 levels behind their class level. So when a Cleric has a level 7 Turn Undead, a Paladin has a level 4 Turn Undead. Maybe it's useful against some of the weak enemies like skeletons or zombies, but you can probably kill them just as quickly with melee attacks. Here are some notes on how Turn Undead[baldursgate.fandom.com] works in BG.
when I played a pali I used charisma as a dump stat ( the higher the charisma the better the turn undead ability) and I would bash them instead of waiting to a chance of knocking them down or making them flee once every 6 seconds.
When I played cleric I let my wizard cast fireball.
Charisma doesn't affect Turn Undead in BG (I don't think it does in standard 2nd ed. either).
Why didn't you pick the space marine class and use the BFG spell to kill the undead? That's way faster.
On a more serious note, turn undead is useful for protecting your fighters from ghast attacks until you can get decent saves or free action items.
