Option to revert to 2.4?
I am trying to install mods but as none have been updated since 2017, they don't work anymore or cause weird glitches.

I feel like as consumers we shouldn't be forced to test BETA builds for developers without accepting to. I paid for a finished product, not a test build. Let me revert back please.

Revert to 1.3 which is before bd lost thier collective minds and decided that they no longer cared about BG's legacy.

I would, but most mods have been updated for 2.4 and since it's been so long since an update most of the people who made the mods have disappeared and now the game is broken.

Who can even play this game vanilla without being bored by lack of challenge?

I prefer the 1.3 version. After that they were making the game for the bg 1.5 version, which I can't stand. I didn't buy an old favorite to play a game rammed down my throat by social justice warriors.

Hmm? What mods are you talking about because there shouldn't be much if any conflicts between 1.5 and 2.0

Why would you want to revert? Did I miss something?

Because 1.3 is the superior version of the EEs?

Okay?? In what way?

Well, for starters because it's the closest version to the Original Saga that we have since the 2.x patches are when bd started playing with stuff "just because".

There is no real reason. At least none that I could find so far. The newer patches work fine. Some people just like to live in the past where "everything was better". And they are very vocal about it.

Though I do agree that forced upgrades are bad for consumers in general, but that's a problem with steam in general, and one reason why I've been buying more games on gog recently.

Check out Win 10, the OS that swore to NOT be compatible with any "old stuff", which is the main reason we now have such a hassle with "old stuff".

Not sure what you mean? Win 10 + 2.4 patch is working fine for me.

It's because it's Win 10 that you NEED a patch in the first place. Windows 10 operates on 64 bit programming. Microsoft swore it would make NO effort to make the OS backwards compatible to 32 bit programming. This philosophy is one reason STEAM exists in the first place. It's why you no longer buy your own games in the computer game store, and install them yourself. What used to be a simple routine has now gotten so complicated consumers have to pay a big company to make your games playable and install them for you.
Hm well, stuff wasn't always easy back in the day. I remember trying to install Outcast when that was new. It was impossible to do if you had installed it's demo version before. Had to use the regedit.exe to clean up some stuff. Or even before that, configuring EMS memory in the ms-dos age was a PITA. Not to forget some copy protection mechanisms going full aggro mode on you. I guess when people look back at things they tend to remember more of the good stuff. Probably our brains are just wired like that.

I think that stuff has become easier to use over the years for people without a deeper technical understanding. And Steam played a major part in that. You just hit the install button and 'magically' things work out. At least for newer games I didn't run into trouble so far. Had some problems with some old games, but that's just running old software on modern hardware, not neccesarily a steam problem. Had I installed from a cd-version, I would most likely run into the same problems.

But all this easy-to-use stuff comes at a price. Decisions are made for us by the systems we use. And we are lucky if they even tell us about it. That's why I use win10 only for casual gaming and not for more serious things. Also I will probably buy more games on different sites that give me an binary that I can install when and where I want.

You won't have the option to buy an OS other than Win 10 much longer.
Good that I don't have to BUY my trusted ArchLinux then. And Baldur's Gate runs fine on it.
