overwriting old character file still bugged
I just noticed that I STILL can't overwrite a character file. This bug has been known at least since 2013 according to beamdog forums.

Also some idiot thought it's a good idea to replace old BG display by filename with showing exported character by character name so I end up with 20 different casters all sharing the same name, but with different level, spell book composition, stats etc with no way of knowing which one is the one I want to put in my party.

My druid overwrite saved, but all of the rest of my party did not. Not sure what that's about, haha

it appears to be an ancient bug back from vanila baldurs gate - however there, it was possible to view exported characters by filename and not character name, meaning I could go with things like fmt-667 or similar to easily find the one I want

You should be ab le to overwrite a charaters name when saving a profile. Unless your attached to a specific version of a charater, just start a new game import all versions of you charater until you find which on you want, save the game and delete all your profiles, load the save and export that file. Then you'll have one save profile.

If for some reason you want the same charater but with a diferent name, you can name that export with a diferent name, you can also change the name/photo of the charater in the game.

I should be, but should is the keyword here ;) It simply doesn't work like that - even though I get popup asking if I'm sure, it doesn't work. I need to create new saved character every time.

How do I change character name in game? I know I can use shadowkeeper for that, but I can't find the rename option under character customisation.

Looks like yopu can't rename the charater until you import it, it will be the last menu before the game starts, you can only customise its picture ingame.

Sometimes when you copy a charater over the top of the old one, you have to restart the game for the changes to show, or it did at least for one of my charaters when I used the tomes of knowlege to increase his stats to godlike powers.

Either way, as long as you have your charater under a savegame, you should be able to delete all the old files, and load the game, and export you charater from that save. At least that would reduce the number of files.

On a side note, when you import a charater, you can import several of the same charater up to the party limit on both multiplayer and singleplayer (just look for the add to party button).

I know I can rename the character on import before starting the game - but that doesn't solve anything.

Importing party may help - if I could switch the main character and kick out the rest ;(
