The Luckless Miner In The Mine Of Nashkhel
The poor guy has virtually no luck. I made a determined effort to save his life on the entrance to the second level this time around. But even though the 4 kobolds dropped dead less than a second after he did, he still went down. Apparently the kobolds think trading their 4 lives for his is a good deal, no matter how ferociously we try to protect him.

Anyone ever saved the luckless guy?

In all my 20+ playthroughs, both the classic version, and this version, I have never managed to save him. =/

I vaguely remember saving him once, but it took metagaming and save slumming to do so as I recall.

Nice of you to try to rescue the poor guy. Maybe next game.

so yeah I thought he was scripted to die.

in NWN 2 there is a scene in the official campaign where if you save some random butler in the mansion from some brigands you get some XP. and a minor line for your good work.

to save him apparently 2 things need to be done.

1, you approach him with one guy, and then pull back so he walks over to your team out of line of fire of the kobolds.

2. you cast protection from normal missles on him, likely using a scroll to cast it due to the lower level of your mage.

there are no rewards for saving him. but if I was going to save him to walk off screen thats generally what I'd do. a wand of fireball on the kobolds if you have enough room to safely manage the blast is always an option.

To make it real you CAN'T have pre knowledge it's going to happen. The most I can allow is all 5 of my party to walk in armed with missile weapons: 1 throwing daggers, 2 slings, 2 bows. I have one wand of missiles I guess would be legal to use.

It is possible to save him or at least it was back in the classic I managed do it twice back then. I haven't quite managed it on the enhanced version although he almost made it in the last playthrough

yeah i just saved him on my lob speed run. but i just re checked the instance. i blinded the nearest but two others still hit him.

he only lived because of lobs hp/res boosts. conversly, if you stealth/invis up to him instead of the normal script interaction, the four dont apear. just one from behind wich can be easily nuked. on core... im gonna check that... i wana say nope... not without crazy nukage and or maybe pushing up some summons to draw their agro asap. you could also probably drop invis on him just after the convo.

but that guy... he was born to die.

Yesterday, I entered the mines and for some reason, the kobolds spawned a little bit further away than usual - not much and I didnt really go for saving him (as I thought it is impossible), yet somehow he survived. Yay, it took me only 20 years of "trying"...

Yeah I've saved him a bunch of times...doesn't mattter though because if you kill the kobolds before they kill him he doesn't do anything.

Saved his life! I was playing a Kensai, specializing in daggers, and I was carrying throwing daggers when the time came. I do believe I may have hit 2 kobolds in the scuffle. A real sight to see when the unlucky (lucky this once) dweeb scampered off screen.

I must have the luckiest experience since he rarely dies for me. Guess it because of the dialogue option i pick at the time. Yes I don't recall the option lol.

Another character, another failure. I swear those 4 kobalds hit the deck, dead BEFORE the unlucky miner. Only 2 of the 4 even got off an arrow. Luckless miner.

Ah, Beldin. It is possible to save him.

Keep your party at the very level entrance (use right-click) to place them there.
Then, stick out one character and have Beldin come all the way down to you.

If the memory serves me, the original game was spawning Kobolds all the way up, so you didn't need to face them for this. BG EE will spawn them at your party, but Beldin should still be able to manage to go off the map alive.
