Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition

Essential Sorcerer spells?
Hello, I', just starting a fresh playthrough, and I was wondering what are some essential spells a Sorcerer should learn?

Also, do you get to relearn your spells when you import to BG2-EE? Thanks.

Higly recommended:
  1. Identify, Magic Missile, Spook
  2. Mirror Image, Web
  3. Melf's Minute Meteors, at least one damaging spell (Flame Arrow, Skull Trap)
  4. Stoneskin
I would also suggest these but I do not consider them essential: Remove Magic, Slow, Greater Malison
1. Magic Missile
2. Glitter Dust
3. Skull trap
4. Stoneskin
The list of spells to chose would essentially depend on if you're aiming to play the whole saga or just BG1... and also, if you're playing with party or solo too.

And if with a party, what kind of other spell casters will you plan to have with you along would also alter the choices of spells you can make too.

These are the spells from amongst which I end up always choosing myself, only 5 per spell level, and is very difficult to leave something out :)

As an example, this is the list of spells I chose to take when I did my solo sorcerer run a couple of years ago... I removed the BG1 level cap and did not farm or exploit XP, and I ended the game as ~L13 to L14, I think... this was on patch 1.3 EE.

If I had to do the same run today, I'd probably change some spells... I think. Specially if I was to play on patch 2.5

The ones separated with '|' are choices that I left open (for me to decide at the time I had to pick :P)

The spell list would probably change a lot if I was playing with SCS, though... maybe not in the choices per-se, but in the priority of certain spells and which one take first.

L1 -> 1:Blindness 1:Shield
L3 -> 1:MagicMissile
L4 -> 2:Blur
L5 -> 1:ProtFromPetrification 2:Knock
L6 -> 3:FlameArror
L7 -> 1:Identify 2:MirrorImage 3:SkullTrap
L8 -> 4:ImprovedInvisibility
L9 -> 2:ResistFear 3:Haste 4:Stoneskin
L10 -> 5:Sunfire
L11 -> 2:MelfAcidArrow 3:ProtectionFromFire 4:WizardEye 5:SpellImmunity
L12 -> 6:ProtectionFromMagicEnergy
L13 -> 4:GreaterMalison 5:AnimateDead 6:ProtectionFromMagicalWeapons
L14 -> 7:ProjectImage
L15 -> 5:LowerMagicResistance 6:TrueSight 7:MordenkainenSword
L16 -> 8:AbiDalzimHorridWilting
L17 -> 7:MassInvisibility 8:PowerWordBlind
L18 -> 9:Spellstrike
L19 -> 8:SpellTrigger 9:ChainContingency
L20 -> 9:TimeStop
L21 -> 6:DeathSpell
L22 -> 3:MelfMinuteMeteors 7:RubyRayOfReversal|SpellSequencer
L23 -> 4:FireshieldRed 8:IncendiaryCloud
L24 -> 9:Wish
L28 -> 5:SpellShield|Breach
L30 -> 6:ImprovedHaste
L31 -> 7:FingerOfDeath
L32 -> 8:PierceShield|Simulacrum|ProtectionFromEnergy|ImprovedMantle
L37 -> 9:Shapechange|AbsoluteImmunity

This last list is heavily based on the choices made by Policy of Madness in her Solo Sorcerer No-Reload on Youtube... I made a few changes here and there but the core of the spells are approximately the same.
This is my favorite guide[forums.beamdog.com] for which spells a sorcerer would take. Granted, it's tailored for SCS, but IMO there's not much difference when it comes to which are the most useful spells between it and vanilla. I suppose one difference would be that Spellthrust is much less useful since spell defenses don't block Breach in vanilla.
