Where is Imoen?
I did Minsc's side quest to rescue Dynahier; in order to make room for her, I removed Imoen from the party while we were in the gnoll stronghold. I dumped Minsc and Dynahier in Naskell. Imoen wasn't there.

I figured she would be in the Friendly Arms in, but she wasn't. I went back and rechecked the gnoll stronghold, to see if she was still there. No luck; lots of gnolls but no Imoen. Where does she go if you reform the party?

Without mods she'd stay exactly where you left her, so although she might simply be hiding behind something, although there are mods that allow you to send her to one of the inns.

Normally she should be in the very same spot where you left her. Did you search correctly? Did you leave her in the same "hole" that you got Dynaheir? Perhaps you flung'd a fireball as you treked back to the previous spot and accidently hit her, killing her?

I considered that; I went back and looked in all the prisoner holes but didn't see her. I guess I will have to try it again, and go over every inch of the Stronghold, although I'm almost certain that I removed her as soon as I added Dynaheir to the party.

Found her; she somehow went and hid behind some stairs. Thx.
Old topic, but the most relevant that comes up with a proper title, too.

So, for the first time ever I've had lost Imoen, too. Went on a long searching mission just for the hands on experience.

All I remembered was that I had fetched Safana to steal Algernon's Cloak. But I couldn't find Imoen in the lighthouse area at Safana's original location. Huh?! Kept highlighting for some time to possibly spot Imoen's name. No way! The search turned a lot more complicated. Went to Friendly Arm Inn, although dismissed characters would stay wherever they've been removed. Noticed that Jaheria & Khalid were not available anymore, but that is because they had never joined the team. Rejecting them during the first encounter, they will be gone. Spotted Neera and Dorn there, however. Then visited other areas and inns, brought back Ajantis, who was still waiting patiently at Carnival in Branwen's location. Even went back into the Nashkel Mines *lol* because eventually I thought maybe I had messed up when taking Xan into the party just to browse his character record a bit. Nope. Xan was there, but Imoen wasn't.

After returning to lighthouse area once more for another try, I gave up and asked the Internet for its BG community wisdom. Found a post suggesting that one can use the NearInfinity tool to show a companion's current location. And voila, Imoen was waiting in AR3300 (= Beregost) at specific coordinates - at the very right area exit near Thunderhammer's shop. D'oh! No idea how long it would have taken me to find her there accidentally when returning to the shop. Possibly I had dismissed her there after selling some Ankheg shells and before travelling to Safana, then forgot about that.

So, as a last resort, use NearInfinity on a savegame file and browse the companion entries to display the area code and coordinates.

Maybe it's just me, but when I dump companions I always try to do it in an inn or town, near other unused companions or near NPCs that don't move. I don't want to be cruel and dump them in the wilderness, at least give them someone to keep them company while I'm off saving the world. Just for RP reasons, obviously it has no effect on gameplay (unless for some reason I want to take them again and can't find them, as you mention).

Decided to go with an evil group in my current run (I've never tried Dorn and Baeloth before) so I left Imoen next to Khalid and Jaheira in the FAI (after adding them then dismissing them to stop them disappearing in chapter 3). Also dismissed Xzar and Monty across the hall of the FAI after using them to help kill Tarnesh. I can just imagine the Harpers and the Zhents giving each other the side eye across the room while downing ales and watching the world go by as CHARNAME makes more and more of a name for themselves.
