I cant get past the chess battle in Durlags tower
Been trying for 2 hours now, all they do is cast some mass confusion spell on me and this ruins the whole fight. All of my characters loose controll gets themselves killed by lightning from running on the wrong blocks. This is impossible...I need help

If you don't find ways to protect yourself against Confusion, the old cheesy way to cast Cloudkill to beginning of fog of war, would still work.

yeah, rod of fireballs is what I did when I did it, and was going to suggest that to you.

I don't understand the rules of the chess game. if you move forward at all it just starts spitting lightnings at you. but you can bomb them with fireballs relatively easily.

Each character has to move like the piece that corresponds to their starting square. So yeah, if you don't know how chess works, you're kinda boned. (And even if you do, the game's interpretation of your character's movements doesn't always match what you're doing.)

That's why I try to make them come to me. Send my "queen" up a square to draw the pawns' attention, have my ranged characters smack them down before they reach my end of the board, then throw a Cloudkill at the back row, wait for it to die down, and send one character in to mop up.

yeah it was more no matter how I moved it just started spitting lightning at me and my guys started just running around screaming.

and the other side did whatever the hell it wanted.

I had my mage cast Greater Malison at the area while still out of sight and without moving from her square. Then Chaos. Those two almost takes care of everything without any of you needing to move :). Then if that wears off, cast Web and Cloudkill. Done! Neera took out everyone in that room.

If you want win without fight you need two thinks. 1. Invisibility (micsture or spell) 2. resistance to electricity.
One of your team must have this two thinks. He or she Must go to enemies without a fight (keep invisibility) and walk on chess board cause electricity.
The enemies dont see you. Board does. Enemies die from electricity but youare resistance.

There is no need to move your pieces at all. You do not need to see the other side. All you need are fireballs (the guy outside sells a wand of fireballs) Potions of fiery burning, potions of explosions, necklace of missiles (there are several of those in the game and they can be recharged) are all viable substitutes.

Just stand in place and launch fireballs directly opposite of your king at the edge of your vision. Three or four should kill the enemy king and several other pieces as well. When the king is dead, game over (any other pieces disappear) and you can move anywhere you like.

I sure hope after 7 years of trying you've managed to figure it out.
