It's just that. You need to skip that fight, since the LOB adjustments break them.

Nah, you don't need to skip it, it just takes (a lot of) time :D
The nice thing about the rats is the fact that they can't kill you, since their attack counts as unarmed.
Buy a weapon made of wood (a club works just fine), make sure to enable auto-attack and send your character(s) to attack the rats. Yes, the rats will kick your butt, but since they can't kill you, your character will just stand up again after a few seconds. Combine that with auto-attack and all it takes is around an hour for a single character to beat the Mighty Rats of Doom :)

Also, if you have a ranger, use Charm Animal ability to charm one of the rats to make it fight against other rats. If your main character is a mage, you can use your Familiar to help you fight them. If you have a mage (a specialist is better here as they get 2 spells), blind one or two rats. This will let you focus on other rats first.

But why would PLAYER want to do that if it takes an hour? The amounts of XP are a joke. There are more interesting encounters in an LOB game.

Does it really matter how someone wants to spend their own time ...? :)
Plus, you can just let the game ran in the background and do something else while your character takes down the rats.

Of course not.

And when you return, you only get to see the game's end credits screen. :steammocking:

Not in this case, as rats inflict unlethal damage. Using AI - attack enemies can help save time, in this particular case.
It was a poor joke - in reply to letting the characters complete the game automatically while being away from keyboard. Apparently too hard to understand. Nevermind.
