Great werewolves... how was I supposed to know?
So, I'm close to the end of the game, decided to deal with the extra zones.
I'm currently in the werewolves island, I've been sent to kill the clan of the "beasts" and his leader.
Various floors inside the ship were slightly tough but I managed with the least of efforts, the real surprise was at the top, when I met Karoug.... I used everything I could, summoned monsters, wands, nymph, paralyzed him... he is just OP... he's immune to all my arrows, he's immune to most my weapons, his regeneration is too strong for the little damage I'm able to do... I even equiped my main character with Sword of Balduran, which is the only weapon against werewolves I have, (tho none of my characters use ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ swords, reason for which I also "discarded" other weapons I've earned against shapeshifting in past) NOTHING seems to be able to make it in time to beat this guy, even if I'm capped and top geared...

HOW am I supposed to handle him? Now my group is weak, and if I go away for resting, the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ will vanish... How was I supposed to know how to prepare myself since the beginning, even before getting trapped in the island? Now I'm stuck, and don't have any idea of what to do! Apparently the game offers very few valid options against such a situation, which is a shame....
I already checked wiki, and it is really poor of useful informations, didn't help at all... now I wish I read it before starting this adventure, as it seems that good sense is not always enough in this game, but that'd ruin my fun also, why should I be forced to even do so?

Coincidentally, I met and killed Karoug for the first time yesterday.

This is my second playthrough, where I am being evil and a munchkin. So I accepted to steal the sea charts, I have been collecting weapons for when I have to find new companions in SoD, and I am using the wiki more.

Even then, Karoug was only vulnerable to two of my weapons: the silver dagger found in that same ship, and the bastard sword +3 against shapeshifters. I gave both to Shar-Teel, even though she isn't proficient, as well as the necklace against lycanthropes.

I also powered up the group as well as I could: haste, bless, potions of heroism, potions of strength, draw upon holy might, poison weapon and a skald song.

Then I sent Shar-Teel on a duel with Karoug while the rest of the group fought his minions.

It might actually have been overkill.

You mean the little silver dagger of Balduran?... the one apparently harmless?
And I had no bard or caster able to use hold person (while nymph failed it due to a successful save throw from him)... at that point I was badly injuried, so what I did was trying to heal a bit with the potions I had left (spells were all used already) and drink as many potions as I could (didn't think about haste at that moment tho, didn't come in my mind that walking speed wasn't its only useful effect), then I returned to the top floor with my main character first, and the others followed up to help a bit with a little damage that would consume his regen... tho the only two effective weapons of mine were Sword of Balduran and Burnt Earth (the one you find in Durlag's tower), which has a +2 THAC0 and damage extra against regenerating monsters.
With some luck and a couple critical hits I finally brought him down.

What do you mean you've been gathering weapons for when you meet new companions in SoD?

Most stories portray werewolves as being weak to silver bullets and sometimes to silver weapons in general. Plus, this dagger is called Werebane and is +4 against lycanthropes.

I didn't actually test how well it worked alone, but it ought to have helped.

I read those would work too. But I haven't been to Durlag's tower yet in this second playthrough, and defeating traps and locks during the fight seemed hard.

Siege of Dragonspear is an expansion of the first Baldur's Gate, which automatically starts after you defeat BG1's final boss. SoD begins in a dungeon where your party has been sent on a mission. During this dungeon, all your companions make comments about having their own projects and saying goodbye once this mission is over. And they do leave you when you exit the dungeon, taking with them any equipment they have equipped (but dropping in a very large chest everything they are just carrying). When that happened in my first playthrough, I just had to read the wiki. It turns out some companions can be recruited again later on, but others are gone for good.

That's when I decided to play BG1 again in evil munchkin mode, before continuing my first playthrough into SoD. Not that it will change anything for the save of the first playthrough. But after that I intend to continue the second playthrough into SoD as well, still in evil munchkin mode.

This kinda sucks... should I unequip the stuff at some point to be able recovering it for others?
Does have SoD anything to do with the Black Pit from menu or that's yet another thing?

And yes that's the weapon I was talking about, the sword of Balduran.. it's a bastard sword tho, not a dagger, and it is made of gold, not of silver... it alone, or even Burnt Earth alone, or even both together, are not enough without proper buffing....

Werebane isn't Sword of Balduran.

Werebane +1 is a Silver dagger that offers +1 damage/THAC0 to most creatures, but counts as a +4 weapon when fighting Werewolves (Lycanthropes). It's found on the second level of the ship.

Sword of Balduran is a Bastard Sword that deals non magical damage to any non Lycanthrope, but counts as a +4 when fighting them. Found on the top level of Baldur's ship.

Then I did not find the dagger... :(
Dunno how it was possible, I aimed my mouse in every square of the map, and still did not find it...

Yeah, I think having the companions unequip everything before leaving SoD's first dungeon would be wise. Although it could mean finding them naked later on and not having quick access to the chest. I don't know, I haven't played that far. And The Black Pits is probably its own thing.

Can't the sword you get from the Druid vs Hunter event in Cloakwood hit them as well? Or was this changed in EE?

Yes it can. But I hadn't it with me, because none of my characters was proficient with that kind of weapons, so I deposited it somewhere before departing, to free my inventory.
