Let Edwin die and revive him after the deed.
I have no idea if these will work.
also just on a side note you can have minsc dynaheir and edwin as companions if you do it right.
Minor Spoilers on how to get all companions and how to keep them

Though since the dawn of EE I've been using Dorn instead of Minsc. His character design just annoys me...a ranger that starts with two handed sword skill...and then Kivan uses a bow and a halberd. Its like the original Bioware developers hated rangers. How would they have even learned their two free pips in two weapon fighting in training to be level 1 rangers? I used to go and shadowkeep them to something along the lines of what they should be, but now I just avoid them now that there is another decent fighter option. Before Minsc was it...well Ajantis isn't horrible I guess, but not what I'd call good either.
I've seen a number of let's play vids on Youtube where people utilize Minsc as a dual wielder. I myself have him using axes and maces on my Fighter/Thief playthrough, while Keldorn handles the zweihanders. Minsc could still switch to a two-handed sword if I wanted him too. Like Keldorn could use Carsomyr, and Minsc the Vorpal Sword and the both charge into the fray. But this gives me more options, like giving Minsc the Mace of Disruption and Azuredge so he can tear through vampires.
It is more of a BG1 thing...by mid BG2 Minsc will be specialized in a number of weapons.
I was at first hoping that Minsc would get turned into a Berzerker when EE came out...and Kivan given the Archer kit...since that is how they act like they should be, but I was let down. You can level them up and gain more weapon proficiencies and have them dual wield something by the end game. Minsc does start with 1 pip in maces, but you will only get two more points to spend before the xp cap so only maces can get specialized if you want to get the third pip in two weapon fighting. The biggest fail is that there aren't many magic maces in BG1. EE did thankfully add "the Stupidifier" which has a small chance to stun on a hit, but it is still only a +1 weapon. Other than that I think there is a plain +1 magic mace and thats it...oh a there is a +2 mace in the bottom of Durlag's Tower, but you are going to be doing that near the end of the game so it doesn't really count for much. So that 1 pip in maces will likely get wasted in favor of two pips in long swords. Kivan starts with no one handed skill at all and will never be able to get three pips in two weapon fighting and specialize in a weapon to use it.
Though the worst part for me is the role play of it rather than the power gaming aspect of it...they are highly sklilled in fighting with two weapons, but don't actually know how to use a one handed weapon very well. It's madness.
