You must register the game to play. If you want to request a refund, you'll need to contact Steam support.

Anything published by Stardock will require the account. Something I learned many years ago with Galactic Civ. Sadly, its what keeps me from getting their games, otherwise they look really good. But that account/registration system is insanely troublesome; at least from my experience.

I have no issues with a company trying to protect their assets. Then again, I've never had a problem with the registration process.

My experience was not a minute, sad to say, lol. More like a couple days. I understand protecting one's "assets" but it was not a good customer experience. I'm sure there are plenty of people who don't have that problem, which is great. I was not one of those people.

I don't think I needed to activate my account. i just signed up and used my details from my sign up. i don't think I had to go to my email or anything, so that's why I was playing in like a minute lol.

Its been a long while since this happened, so I debate giving it another try. I just can't bring myself to take the plunge yet. Maybe a couple more sales and I'll finaly break down and buy this one, lol.

Took me literally 1 min. I don't think it even sent a verification email..just had to have an email (ok it was but it came right away). It so wasn't an issue. I haven't gotten any spam from them or anything like that.

I've had nothing but issues with their activation process. Still can't activate the new expansion. All tho I've been told their servers are down this morning.

I'm not anti DRM, but I can definitely see why many are... this is frustrating as all hell.

Yes I can see they would be but I am not going to avoid a great game because I have to have an account with them. Many games do this. Most folks are making comments about not getting this because of having to have an account. Folks that have issues should be wanting it to be fixed and assurances that it will continue to stay fixed.

I'm not avoiding it because I have to have an account. When a customer experience is so horrendous because of the account system and there were no assurances it wouldn't happen again, I'm not inclined to go back. While I'm not sitting here saying "Nobody buy from them!" I'm not gonna hop back on when I still see people having similar issues, four years later.

Same here. Except I bought it through Humble (who didn't mention the DRM.) So I've requested a refund off them and off Steam because ... I'm kinda confused.

It is quite easy to sign up.
Go to the Fallen Enchantress site, there is a link "Sign Up". You follow the request and then you activate the account. 1 Minute and it's done.

Back when they used to sell their own games and compete with Steam, it was a hassle. However, they gave most of that up. I'm actually glad to see their games here on Steam. Really would like to see an overhauled, upgraded Gal Civ 3 some day. Although I hope it looks better...
