The spell turns your mana into a pool of HPs and basically makes you invincible if you have a few thousand mana. I ended up Fireballing the demons (Thunderstriking the fire-immune ones).
When you start that quest you get 5 spells you can cast for free, have no casting time, and have no cooldown. Used properly, this makes the fight a cakewalk.
First, cast the life spell: it heals you by 500hp (Your max hp should be 1000+ now, so it's a good thing to do). At this point, especially if you have halfway decent armor, the demons won't be able to do more than 250 a turn, so you can alternate between healing and casting. This really makes it to wear you can't lose, so... have fun curbstomping the demons now.
I don't remember all of the spells, but I believe the earth does knockback and the air is a massively upgraded lightning strike spell and thus teleports you. As some of the demons are immune to fire, just use these spells. If you are having trouble, teleport into a corner so that they can only attack you with 3 units at a time.
Honestly, though, the only problem here is that the descriptions for the spells are bugged and absent sometimes and it doesn't blatently tell you it gave them to you.
