Yes. There is a program called "Company of Heroes New Steam Version" that will solve your problems. The old version doesn't have any servers to log into anymore.

Haven't checked if it works but perhaps you can fake a LAN and use a service like Hamachi.

If you play on vCoH v1.0, I don't think they had relic online at that point. You'd be able to play on a LAN I guess. But it's unpatched and terrible.

You really should just use the steam version.

Seeing as he doesn't have the little mouse icon telling us he owns it, I feel his title is confusing for us steam users. I don't believe he means using the 'non-steam version" like we have in our game library, I think he means he has a retail or other copy of the game.

Regardless, OP Relic shut down their online servers for CoH 1, and moved to CoH2. Steam took over for them to keep the game alive and runs servers via steam. You can't play multiplayer as normal without steam's version. Should you not wish to purchase Steam's version, you might be able to make use of a tunneling program like hamachi to play via LAN connection, but its hard to say how that'd turn out.

Put simply, the game is in a sad state of dying. Steam is keeping it on life support for those who just can't say goodbye, but in all sense and purpose, it might as well be dead. (I still love it, but I can get all I need out of it offline anyways)

The game is 7-8 years old. How many other games of that age gets ANY support? I'd say it is far from dead and it is still way better than CoH 2. There is still an active mod community that keeps great mods such as Blitzkrieg alive and SEGA actually update the base game now and then.

Sure, some features are broken but nothing that affects gameplay is. Also, Relic didn't shut any servers down. The decision was made by Ubisoft since they owned the now dead Quazal servers. I actually think it's great that SEGA stepped in when THQ crashed and then stepped in again when Ubisoft shut down the Quazal servers.

I own several titles on disc where multiplayer is long gone. Here, SEGA offers an alternative. If you can't use your old game keys, buy the New Steam Version on a sale for less than 5 Euros. Problem solved.

I was amazed that they let us use the retail keys on steam (Freaking awesome move guys btw ;D). ALthough opposing fronts never seems to work :/.

I have a retail copy before Opposing Fronts came out and Opposing Front. I was able to register both as of last week as a steam game through CD Keys where as previously it wouldn't work. You don't have to re-purchase.
