Lazy Mouse, slow down

I had this problem over the course of two different computers. The more I played within a session, the more the mouse would get lazy and the game would eventually get laggy. On the last computer it got so laggy to the point of being unplayable, but on this one its still ok, just a bit sluggish as the game progresses. There's no way these computers weren't powerful enough with such an old game. Must be some type of compatibility issue.

I dunno, I don't keep track of much technical stuff, but they were both good expensive computers no more than 2 years old. I can't imagine computer specs had much to do with it as there is no problem they should have trouble running such an old game.
