Why so low numbers of people online?

In multiplayer chat always 20-30 man. But Steam showing several hundreds online.

I would imagine it has something to do with being 20 years old ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

People are playing the singleplayer, im sure the multiplayer is long, long, loooong dead.

The game is ancient, in terms of gaming times. Games just simply die over time. That's the natural state of progression for most games. Especially when sequels come out, which Company of Heroes has multiple sequels at this point. I personally prefer the first game over the others, but the QoL of CoH2 is very nice. I kinda wish they would simply revisit CoH1 with QoL and balancing changes to update it to modern standards.

I played CoH1 many years ago also. Now I notice that game not showing lvl of players in ranked game? Always 1 lvl for all
