Or do you mean that completely unrelated, really awful film? Because that was awful.
There's no movie that's based on this game. There's a movie with the name "Company of Heroes", but it has nothing to do with the game at all.
And yes, the CG effects were rather poor. I think though that the most hilarious part for me was the fact that they called some random tank a Tiger. It wasn't, yet the producer stated that they spent all this time making sure everything was spot on because "people will know when something is wrong". Yeah...and we noticed.
I know. I was correcting them (Aveator and LSD), not you ~_^
So on with the show:
"Its such a different medium...film versus a video game. In the video game your participating. Your an active member and participant." - Don Michael Paul, Director
"We crafted the story and used the game as kind of a back drop", "I tried to be inspired by the game. By the key art of the game and what it tries to do for the participant in terms of going into a story and controlling your destiny. Then taking all that and putting it in a storyline..."
- Jeff Beach, Producer
So yeah, they were wrong. You only need to watch the special feature titled "In the Trenches: The Filming of Company of Heroes" They talk and show clips from the vanilla (2006 release) game starting at around 1min 21 sec.
Hell, the back of the DVD case by all the credits even says: "Based on the video game series 'Company of Heroes' published by THQ inc. It also says the same thing at the end of the movie trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pn_4KlFmkbU.
Look at the very end, third line up from the bottom after the "all rights reserved" line.
(↑ Now that's a Blitz!)
