At first I was thinking about Tiger, but you' re right, Panther deals better with infantry and is faster.
The Tiger does much better with infantry compared to the Panther since it fires explosive shells (it easily snipes 2-3 models per shot).
The Panther has more range, better armor, moves faster, but is decent vs infantry since it can only snipe 1 model from time to time.
The beauty of the Panther lies in how it breaks the mold. Tanks here are usually a compromise between armor, mobility and firepower. The Tiger II packs a punch and is very tough, but moves a walking pace. The Panzer IV is a nice balance between the 3 factors, but doesn't excel at anything. The M10 is blazingly fast and has good AT firepower, but it virtually no armor and can only kill infantry by running over it.
The Panther upsets that balance. It has great frontal armor, fearsome AT firepower and good enough AI firepower. The downside would be a slow tank, but it is actually the most agile tank of the Wehrmacht, thanks to that beautiful Maybach HL 230 V-12 engine.
The Tiger is better, though, but it requires a Doctrinal choice. Pretty good mobility for a heavy tank, the best AI tank gun in the game (I have seen it take out 5 Rangers in one shot) and still deadly against tanks (if not with the same range of the Panther) And benefits more from Veterancy than the Panther.
Its a very good offensive support Unit which is handy in many Situations.
Lol jajajaja of course!
This setup is highly vulnerable to Airborne. Strafe clears the Snipers + Paras wreck the tank. Or many other things, for that matter. Investing over 2200+ MP into Snipers is impossible, unless the game is already won.
The Tiger is still better, due to being able to buy its veterancy.
The Tiger also has slightly more hitpoints.
the best anti inf tanks are Ostwind and Sherman croc (flamethrowertank).---> there is no inf who can beat these babes
Second i would say Pershing and Tiger
Tanks are completely situational. If you’re referring to stats and power alone, then it’s a tie somewhere between tiger and Pershing. I generally don’t like the KT because it’s way too slow and not particularly good against infantry compared to the other 2 tanks.
Taking everything into account though the best overall tank in my opinion is probably either Wehrmacht panzer iv or the Cromwell. Here’s why I think so and it’s generally easier to explain why with an analysis of why the other tanks are NOT the best.
For starters I’ve eliminated any doctrinal tanks because they lock you in to a fixed play route. If you’re playing blitz for example, 90 percent of the times you’re going LHS for tiger. Most US armor doc players will always go for calliope first over Pershing. Jagpanther and KT is even more extreme. Wirbelwinds and Churchills need no discussion...
I also eliminated any American tanks which have almost no survivabilty even against basic AT weapons like shreks. The Sherman might of had some redeeming value had it not need to choose between an infantry gun or an AT gun. If the upgrade was per tank it might of been significantly better, but it’s one or the other and there’s no way to change back once you decide. The nail in the coffin is that the US really only needs the 57 for any and all AT capabilities. Maybe Airborne RR too...
Lots of people says panthers are the best overall tank since they don’t lock you in a doctrine. The tank is very good but consider this: how many Wehrmacht player actually builds panthers at 600mp/110 fuel and how many PE go for PBG? It’s not the Panther tank that's particularly good, it’s the PBG ability which supplies an unlimited amount of 2x instant panthers for 1000 that is amazing. (And imho, a bit overpowered even given the build cost)
Fireflies, mauder, iv support, all 100% situational.
Because COH is infantry based, I considered the ostwind which can singlehandly wins games by itself sometimes. They come out relatively cheap and with its speed can easily flank at guns even while taking a hit or 2 in the process. Their cannons are even good enough to wreck m8 and m17 in very short orders. While their damage against buildings aren’t particularly effective, they make it for it with the rate of fire which puts them on par with other tanks. The reason why they’re NOT the best isn’t that they have no AT value, but because their effective usage comes from the shock value. Most ostwinds gets in one good or two attacks before the at guns start showing up and their survivBilty is similar to an American m10.
That leaves the panzer iv Cromwell which effectively can do both at and Ai, comes out at a reasonable cost, and maneuvers extremely well. I would of given the Cromwell victory especially since it has flanking speed, but the ability for the iv to buy their veterancies was what tilted it for me. The armored skirts are particular nasty. Nothing worse than landing a perfect sticky bomb and the IV backs away without even taking engine damage because of the skirts.
Again, this is just one persons opinion and takes into everything, not just cost and matchups.
