I've... always loathed TNT. Never felt the design was worth the time it takes to clear.
Master levels are something of a mixed bag and aren't actually intended to be played sequentially like they're set up in this.
Though, TNT and Plutonia is a bit of a slog. As for Master Levels, I always liked the Master Levels. Though, to be honest, the majority would disagree with me. Master Levels for Doom II gets a lot of hate, but I always had a good time playing through the maps.
If you hate later Doom 2 levels, and you hate design that requires you to solve "puzzle" or to have sophisticated battles with teleporting enemies or traps, that probably not worth trying for you.
TNT is a new take on Doom 2 design (back then). It is a fan creation which has absolute bangers to absolute worst of level design. Texture work is good, music is almost perfect. Difficulty is higher than Doom 2's.
The Plutonia Experiment. Coherent but hard and sophisticated level design that requires you push the limits of all your instincts. You cannot go and complete it casually like Doom 2. It requires tactics, preparation, trial and error. A challenge for the worthy.
Master Levels. Those are levels designed by "lead" mappers of that time. Each map is built to be done from the scratch. Some levels are surprisingly interesting, some are levels are really bad, specifically the ones created by Christen Kyle.
It's your choice, but if you was not amused by later Doom 2 levels even with all guns and ammo then you probably should try Sigil and Legacy of Rust instead, and also some other fan creations but not using KEX engine (it is still works not as intended and works are not uploaded by their respective creators).
Most are intended to be pistol start. Several are intended to be map 7 for example to take advantage of tags that only functioned in map 7 originally.

Hmm.. I've have to go back and do some pistol runs after I finish this achievement hunt.
Master of Doom is just disappointing as a map pack.
Of all the WADs, No Rest for the Living is the best choice, though Rust Legacy could be a contender, but I haven't finished it yet. So far, E1M6 is the worst map, but most of them are good.
For the achievements!
-Master levels: Some good ideas, outweighed by too many bad and confusing ideas. Interesting but worth it at least once maybe.
-TNT: Love love love the atmosphere, but levels tend to be confusing and sometimes require secrets to complete which pisses me off.
-Plutonia: Very hard but very fun
