Remaster Deathmatch has serious issues
Doom invented the deathmatch. Most players of Doom 2 were MP enthusiasts, certainly by 1995. Doom pioneered eSports as we know it today. It's really a shame that Nightdive and id Software haven't taken more cues from modern sourceports and custom .WADs on how Deathmatch should work.

1. Auto weapon switching needs to be optional, but even when implemented you shouldn't be changing the gun I'm firing WHILE I'M HOLDING FIRE BUTTON DOWN!
2. Power Ups need to respawn at a rate LESS than other items. This alone ruins the balance of Map 07 Dead Simple, one of the first and favorite DM maps of all time.
3. Doom Multiplayer was originally limited to 4 people, and the weapon, ammo, and health balance reflected that. I'm in favor of expanding the limit, but maps have to be balanced for it with MUCH MORE WEAPONS AND AMMO. It's no fun to Deathmatch with multiple players shooting pistols at each other. Nighdive seem to have a real aversion to letting players start with the SSG, but many classic Doom 2 DM wads have them at all playerstarts!
4. I understand that reducing the total amount of health makes for a more balanced game between noobies and veterans, but the lack of health in some of the DM maps is ABSURD. See above, part of the problem is the higher amount of players, but even for 4 players the lack of +25 medkits is really rough on some maps. There's almost never any incentive to tactically retreat.
5. Most sourceports let you customize what your character looks like, at least letting you choose color like in Quake. It does make sense to assign colors based on joining, but the point of those colors is to know WHO FRAGGED WHO, and WHERE. The marine colors actually bug out in this version, CHANGING as the player dies. Kinda kills the whole point

All of these issues could be avoided if sourceports like zandronum, zdaemon, or odamex, would just let players host servers without port forwarding, one shouldn't have to be an IT technician to be able to host a server, plus port forwarding is archaic af. As of right now this is the only way to play your own servers without having to pay money, port forward, or use some sketchy tunneling software to do so. I agree with everything said here, also not to mention the atrocious netcode where even on players own servers they get high ping. lol
