invincible spectre
I have been playing doom for the majority of my life and never seen this happen: An spectre became invincible. He could still bite me but I could not shoot him. happened in black tower of the master levels.

This could be a known thing but it never happened to me before. It might have some connection by being revived by an archvile...

It could be the Archvile "ghost" bug. If an Archvile resurrects a crushed corpse the resurrected enemy can become invincible and walk through walls.

There is a way to kill a ghost enemy when this happens. Explosions from rockets or barrels can still hurt them. Get the spectre near a wall and hit the wall with a rocket. If there are no barrels or you don't have a rocket launcher yet, you're out of luck.

oh that's interesting! I don't think this ever happened to me in almost 30 years of playing doom and wads.... Still got 100% kills anyway (the spectre dropped into a hole it couldn't get out of and this version doesn't seem to count resurrected enemies to the total enemy count but they do count towards the enemies killed count so that was good enoug for me.

Just had this happen with a zombieman. Never knew this was a thing. And Phoenix is wright, I was able to kill the zombieman with a rocket blast.

This happened to me on Master levels map 28? With the Cyberdemon and Mastermind fight where you get them to battle each other. I had like 3 imps following me thru the map, thru walls and my bullets went right thru them. Had to duck them the whole time. Fun times.

So i have heard lately and i might have never happened to me in playing it for 30 years. I mostly been using GZdoom for years now so maybe GZdoom does something so it doesn't happen or has a less chance of happening.

gzdoom's default settings prevent ghosts, yeah.

GZDoom has "fixed" all of the old bugs/quirks/tech limitations of 1993.

You won't experience things like this archvile bug or infinite height enemies in GZDoom.
I'm kind of a purist. But, I won't lie, sometimes the infinite height thing drives me mad.
